Website hosting

I am looking at setting up a small website geocaching related with very few visitors expected, so I don't expect data to be an issue. My ISP free webspace can't cope with php unless I upgrade to a hosted plan. Has anybody had any experience with the free webhosting services on the net, such as http:...

Money support for website

The nsw geocaching assn website says that buying a pathtag each year supports their association.

Is there a suggested purchase(s) to help fund the gca site, or are all the developers mega rich already?

Re: HTC One S

I buy off ebay from the aussie sellers. I usually get 10 x 2 circle ones, but I am trying 5 x 5 at the moment (but won't use them again). It usually works out as less than a $1 for two on a mint tin. As to wrapping, that was accidental, as when I started I found that the magnets would attract grit i...

Re: HTC One S

I have run out of mint tins, and am running on mint vapors. There are several placed which I haven't had the chance to create online yet, so there are about five or more to come. The person at work who was giving them to me has left and now I have to start munching them myself.

Re: Who owns the land.

The land title for a property is conclusive under the Torrens title legislation across Australia for ownership. Whilst there may be a trust in favour of somebody, or an unregistered lease, the legal title bumps out any unregistered interests. Even with a registered lease, it doesn't change ownership...

Re: Who owns the land.

You can easily find out who owns the land by doing a title search. That costs money. Most title in Australia is held through Torrens Title, even parks and road sides. Basically, the principle of ownership is: The High Court Wik decision says that land is not initially owned by anybody (ie. as in 178...

Re: Who owns the land.

Depends on lots and lots of things. A council park can be Crown Land, can be owned by the Council outright, can be the subject of a trust, or a lease, or be owned by somebody else and subject to a dedication. There is no one answer other than checking the title deeds. The answer will also vary from ...

Re: BIT Caches (aka QR Code Caches)

I say go for a new cache type. I have a munzie account but have never logged or found one as I much prefer to cache when I get the chance.

So what is the harm.

Re: Navigation issues

What version of iphone do you have?

The compass on any smartphone in my experience doesn't work well at all. You also have to wait a few minutes for it to settle down.

Re: Testing GPS accuracy

I'm not worried about what the device says is the accuracy is, because that could be inaccurate as well. I have had three phone gps side by side on a clear night, each giving different co-ords and all saying 5m accuracy over a 30 minute timeframe. I also have a phone that does russian sats as well a...

Testing GPS accuracy

This is probably a silly question, but how do I test the accuracy of a GPS device.

It's not like testing a speedo by using a stopwatch over a set distance. So if I am standing at what my device says is s33 xx.xxxx e151 xx.xxx, how do I know that that piece of ground is actually what I am on?

Missing caches in Sydney

Has anybody experienced a large number of missing caches in or near the Sydney CBD. A large number of my caches have gone missing in the space of a week. I also just noticed that a series of three caches in Pyrmont by thevoucher went missing too. His were quite well hidden. I know there is nothing t...
