Re: Who to blame? The cacher? The GPS? Moi?

My philosophy with DNF's is that if I go there and spend a decent time searching I'll log it as a DNF. If it then has other finds, and I go back and still can't find it, then I won't normally log it as a 2nd DNF. If for whatever reason I just give it a quick look over (eg too many muggles), then I w...

Re: Who to blame? The cacher? The GPS? Moi?

I think it's a mix of both your GPS error and the hider's GPS error. I've had a similar experience to you. Even on some of my hides I have had situations where I have taken multiple samples over multiple days, and then finders have started saying coords are off. Go back, and I measure the same coord...

Re: 2009 Cyber Flash Mob Topic “Positive Caching Experience”

Can I have another go? Another big positive for me has been refreshing some of my old skills that I haven't used for years. Eg the maths that I had to use when creating "KABOOM" and "Algebra at Annand". I haven't done maths like that since Uni - nearly 20 years ago. I am also rehashing some of my ol...

Re: 2009 Cyber Flash Mob Topic “Positive Caching Experience”

My "positive experiences" are finding a cache that the owner has obviously put a bit of thought into - whether it be a very cleverly designed cache, cleverly hidden cache, or a multi that takes you to several good locations. Just last night I found a very clever cache container, that obviously took ...

Re: Poor Form Logs

Ahhh. Finding a cache that isn't there. Don't think I've even done that. Well, maybe once, but it WAS missing and I replaced it and then logged it. So sue me :-) I don't see anything wrong with replacing a missing cache and then logging it as a find, but I think it should only be done after communi...

Re: 'Inappropriate' cache locations?

With regards to playground caches, I have no dramas whatsoever with them. I either take my kids as a decoy, or if they aren't interested I go at a kid-free time. Just after sun-up, after sun-down, or the middle of the day on a schoolday are typical times when you are unlikely to encounter kids, and ...

howdy MM - yeah it was your cache that I'm having the serious problems with WP1. I'll head over next weekend again and have another look. It truly is a bizarre problem. There are a couple of other caches around here where I've had 10-15m errors, but for the most part it is accurate. At least with yo...

Yeah have checked that. It caught me out once before, but that is not the case with this. In most cases it will take me exactly to the cache location, but just the odd one here and there that it gets significantly wrong.

There's 4 that I can think of. If you think the coordinates are out then let the placer know. Put it into your cache log. That's what I would do. Yeah, I've considered those options too. Surely though, if the placer recorded it wrong / had bad sats / old gps / wrong coord system / didn't let gps se...

GPS Accuracy

I use a palm handheld, bluetooth gpsr dongle, running pathaway for geocaching. I have found this combination pretty effective - usually gets me to the cache spot on. <p>However, I have noticed that some caches I am out by 10-20m. At first I just put it down to fix error, either on my behalf or by th...
