Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas

Looks like we can get Aussie-wide LGA data from the ABS too: https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/standards/australian-statistical-geography-standard-asgs-edition-3/jul2021-jun2026/access-and-downloads/digital-boundary-files They provide a shape file, which imports into Google Earth. You can then selec...

Re: Welcome to our newest developer - MattyRx

Aww, shucks

Thank you! I'm looking forward to helping out in the best way I can. \:D/ Nice to be able to give a little bit back to the site that's given me so much over the years.

Re: Earth Science Cache

I think using a text answer rather than multiple choice is good in theory, but as you say the Q&A cant be subjective and spelling may be a problem. If we do choose to use a Q&A word/s, we could have a ‘hint’, provided after the question that guides the finder to write the correct answer. This could ...

Re: Mid-Year Mystery Madness Month

I enjoyed the wide variety of puzzles – a good range of difficulties too. I’m not usually a huge puzzle fan, but this certainly put some fun back into them.

Re: Logless cache idea

I can't find a list either, only the following ‘guidelines’ in their help system. For all physical caches, there must be a logbook for geocachers to record their visit. The logbook must be • Physical • Replaceable • Easy to sign • Enclosed within a container Examples: Notebook, paper scroll. Would b...

Re: Earth Science Cache

I think when the icons are drawn small, #g2630 looks best - so that would be my pic. The offset look works well on the larger graphics but the effect is lost a bit when the icon is reduced in size.

Re: Earth Science Cache

Paragraph 6: 'server' should be 'serve' Paragraph 9: ‘at’ written twice in a row. Last one should be 'an' This sounds really good. Good idea having hiders list the q&a in the cache description too, so they can be logged online later. Lots of subject matter within the four Earth Science spheres too. ...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia

I know. It's really getting in the way of the important things in life. Here's the link to my Youtube Geocaching & Trig vids that I forgot to attach to my last post, because someone at work distracted me. They really have no idea of what is a priority in this place. If anyone want to chop up t...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia

Some good ideas here. I’ve got a playlist of geocaching and trig hunting videos that can be ripped and used in whatever format people want. Some have music in them that the owner allows the content to be used on Youtube, but should be left out if reusing any of this content. The editing is pretty ba...

Re: Earth Science Cache

I suppose we need to start with the definition of Earth Science. It seems to be reasonably loose – dictionary.com says its “any of various sciences, as geography, geology, or meteorology, that deal with the earth, its composition, or any of its changing aspects”. Britannica says its “the fields of s...

Re: Logless cache idea

I know a lot of cachers that prefer virtual style of caches over physical ones. They’ll actively seek them out as a prioritiy. National parks (in NSW & QLD) are definitely a problem when it comes to hiding physical caches. The approval process is exactly what you’d expect from a government run branc...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia

I'm happy to get a few shots of the app working in the field and some screenshots too. I haven't checked out hitrecord.org yet - will have a look and see what it's all about. I'm not sure how much space we'll need to start off with. Dropbox has free 2GB accounts and I think OneDrive has 5GB. If hitr...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia

Here’s a few ideas on some content I think could benefit us: 1. How easy it is to geocache here. • I’ve heard a few comments in my time from non-GCA cachers saying they don’t know how to go about finding stuff on our site. These are folks that have never used a GPSr and want their phone to point the...
