Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia

yup folk all over are celebrating http://www.geocachingonline.com/events/ I wonder if you want to write a press release - maybe tie it in with the apple iphone GPS capabilities would even bump it into a morning TV slot - there's a very neet free app you can do waypoints etc like a regular GPS called...

Re: Cacher dies in USA

This isn't the first cache related death - there was a hider who died in the UK a year or two ago. Very sad. The details will surface after the inquest. ( I came to this sport because i was always so afraid of the big outdoors. Caching has held my hand and taught me and the kids a lot about how to h...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

I do take forthferalz' point about the "thin end of the wedge" and this sort of thing could become a real issue if it became widespread, but there's so little reward to it that I doubt it'll happen. yep I believe in the stitch in time - and disturbingly it depends on what you classify as a reward. ...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

wow! Absolutely appalling what was the GS response? What if you had invited some newb or a local reporter along? Groundspeak seem to fail to act for lack of evidence ... it shouldn't be too hard for them to check IP addresses and confirm that this bloke is a total stooge  Big brother records ...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

I can understand where GS is comming from. Everything costs money and GS need it to keep their web site running. They get it by selling subscritions. Everyone that I see finding caches regularly have already paid for the Premium membership, and the membership offers a solution to this problem. Each...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

we have a guy in NZ whose doing a bit of armchair logging mixed with a few real logs, he caches under 8 or more names, posts caches , his "friends" get FTF's, he sets up false events, people turn up, nothing there, he makes excuses, wrong time, wrong meeting place or wrong day even! His real name i...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

He'll give up - but perhaps he has 3 or 4 real mates who might tell their other dorky friends and it really isn't the point anymore really is it? The point has become the typical response from GC to dig their heels in about the bleeding obvious v. GA responding in completely the opposite fashion. It...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

IOnly people who've found the container and retreived the code from the logbook can log a find. Or had the code provided to them in an email or from a photo, etc. There is nothing that can stop this sort of idiocy and when the site owners won't help either, it's very frustrating ](*,) Small rant. G...

Can you please forward her anything else like this so they can ...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

at the risk of adding to the log spam I've started popping this note onto the cahces he's still 'found' for those who may not read the GA newsletter http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=dog108 dog108 is a bogus caching name which is logging caches around Australia without visiting the cache. at first it was going to be one but i've settled on live and learn - two and i try to make it a bit better hide on the next go. this applies as much to other factors like water and possums as muggles.
