Re: New Program - GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)

I always use the macro. Around home I do this. I have two filters 1) Unfound within 200 kms (no mysteries) and 2) Mysteries with corrected coordinates. I run them one after the other, checking the user flags. Then I select the set user flag caches and load those. I use a macro called "FilterAvailab...

Overseas maps

Shortly I will be travelling for work. In itself not exciting, but finding caches overseas, now THAT is exciting! Sooo, I am after some direction as to where to get some maps for different countries throughout SE Asia and the world really. I know that there was a topic on the forum previously, but I...

Re: an 'invisible' garmin....

I have had trouble before with getting things to be recognised as being plugged in via USB. Usually they are external harddrives but I remember that I had to go into a USB list on the computer and delete the entry for the device. Then when I plugged it in again, it did the whole autodetect and launc...

Re: Retreiving Comments on a Montana

James You can navigate to the 'Garmin' folder on your GPSr and then open the visits file. Can't remeber the exact name but its a text file and it has 'visit' in it somewhere! This will give you the GC/GA code of the caches visited as well as your comments. The other option is that, if you are loggin...

Re: App for iPhone

There is an unauthorised Geocaching Australia app on the iTunes market (or at least there was) but it uses old, stale, invalid data (and our name without asking.... plus Apple won't take it down without going through a heap of legal hoops) I was doing a search for a GCA app on the iTunes store the ...

Newer models make (caching) life easier though, with so many bells and whistles and extra user-friendly 'stuff'.
Cheers. :)
I agree, the unit is extremely accurate - just takes longer to load and I'm lazy so it wouldn't suit me :D

Re: Dakota 20 Trouble

Maybe update to the latest firmware/software for the Dakota 20, via PC and WebUpdater utility. WebUpdater should be available to download from the Garmin site. If still no good and you think the Dakota 20 touch screen is faulty, I'd contact the retailer or Garmin. :) PesceVerde, I did this. Downloa...

Dakota 20 Trouble

Today I went on a short run with the family and everything started off OK. Pressed all the (soft) buttons to navigate to the first cache without trouble. It was a multi so I gathered the info and then went to put the data into the 'Enter Next Stage' of the Dakota 20. At that stage the unit decided i...

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..

I don't understand why people are saying to put in the cache description that you used a smart phone to take the coordinates. Do they put in their cache descriptions that they used Garmin XXX/Magellan XXX/GPSr XXX? I have never seen it, although I must admit that here in WA we are somewhat secluded....

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..

Just hide them and don't mention anything about the method you took to get the coordinates. You are doing the right thing by getting the readings over differnt days/times, the same as you (well most of us) would with a dedicated GPSr. I have taken coordinates with the Dakota 20, using the average fu...

Re: Cachers who refuses to sign the log book

If he finds anymore of your caches and puts a similar thing into his online log I would delete those. If he doesn't post a similar story online, I would check the logbook of the cache he claimed a find on (but I am a suspicious person :-k ) and then delete or keep as appropriate. Looks like the cac...

Re: Cachers who refuses to sign the log book

So the cacher in question has completed 12 finds since 2009? I wouldn't delete the log that you sent him the email about as you have now made him aware of the requirements. If he finds anymore of your caches and puts a similar thing into his online log I would delete those. If he doesn't post a simi...

Re: 2012 Goals

My first goal for this year is to decide on which cache I am going to log as my 1000th overall and then my 1000th GC. At the moment, the 1000th overall is creeping closer and closer as those frogs keep appearing in my area! Second goal is to change out my nanos/micros where I can to something larger...
