Re: Caches in children's playgrounds

I often find that when caching alone, where other people are about. It doesn't look so bad when in a group, or even with one other cacher, but alone, searching for some caches does look very suss. Yes, an interesting phenomena. When caching alone I really just want to find the cache as quickly as p...

Agree. Plenty of other places you can hide a cache.

How far is too far? Far enough that the council confiscates caches in trees for safety reasons?

Re: New version of "your computer has errors" scam?

Thinking about it now, I've had the same basic home phone number since probably the late 1980s. It has got longer though with added numbers. I moved house during that time, but was able to take my number with me, because I stayed with the same exchange. A nice number I didn't want to lose. The good...

Re: New version of "your computer has errors" scam?

I've had the same home phone and mobile number since 1998. Not quite as good as 1988, but not bad.

Re: How many people still visit the forums

Usually only in response to emails. But that is the same as before Facebook. I like getting the notification of a new topic or reply, but if you don't respond to a single email it stops emailing you until you come back. Facebook is much easier to post photos etc when you are at the cache site. The i...

Re: Archived trig points

I noticed one which was archived at the request of the land owner. It would seem that, despite the trig being visible from the road side, that some people felt the need to climb the fence and walk right over to the trig. Sad that the irresponsible ruin it for everyone.

Re: Archived trig points

Well I don't want to name names you see. Word gets around and then I have to add another person to the list of geocachers-who-hate-me-for-having-an-opinon.

I already unarchived the trig in question. I'll PM you a link if you want.

Re: So where/how do you draw the line re safety?

I have turned back after a significant investment in time and effort to get 2/3 of the way to a cache when I decided that the chance of hypothermia for me or one of my group was high. The whole situation made me feel much better about making the right judgement call in the future. I've climbed a lon...

Archived trig points

Hi, What is the community's opinion on people archiving trig points just because they couldn't find a road in? I have been going through my GSAK DB and found trig points that the map shows clearly on publicly available land like state forest, but they have been archived because there was no track. T...

Re: Urban Caches

My take on it is that many urban caches are places by inexperienced hiders who do not yet appreciate the amount of work that maintaining a cache can be. They tend to get all excited about caching and want to go and hide something. If they have only been caching in an urban environment then they go a...

There has just been a spate of these in Canberra by geo2893. Logs on my caches were deleted after not finding their sig in one.
