Re: It had to happen at sometime

My brother and I were driving from Brisbane to Toowoomba in November last year and did a few caches that were close to the highway. There was one at the big pink elephant (I forget the location name) that I was having some trouble finding so we were shining a torch around (was about 8pm) trying to f...

Re: When does a cache cease to be a cache and become rubbish?

I once found a cache sitting out in the open and it's hiding place had been destroyed by a recent flood. It was lucky the cache hadn't been washed away. I picked the cache up and returned it to it's owner. I was on the way to an event that the cache owner was also attending so it was easy. Given a s...

Re: New to NT, New to 'caching, seeking friends to hunt with!

Hi UncleRoo, I'm just about to move to Jabiru, but it may only be for a few months. I have one friend who caches, but not quite as often as I'd like to. I'll be back in Darwin every few weeks so if I'm suffering cache withdrawal and head back to town for a caching day I'll give you a yell... if I fo...

Good Swaps vs Bad Swaps

I'm pretty new to caching (6 months) and I've been trying to figure out what constitutes 'good swaps'? I went on a day of caching south of Darwin and of the 13 caches I found that day about 10 of them had a postcard from a local resort/hotel dropped in the cache as a swap. Now, I see this as a good ...

Re: ANZAC themed Megga Multi

There is a beautiful War Cemetery at Adelaide River, a small town about an hour and a half south of Darwin. There's also a cenotaph on the Esplanade in Darwin City. There are a thousand and one war memorials and war sites up here - most of them are WWII as that war actually came to Darwin. I'm sure ...

Re: Bogus Logs (dog108 is logging caches without finding them)

Can the daily GCA email have an extra heading tomorrow advising cache owners to delete dog108's logs?
What daily email?

I figure there is a box that needs to be ticked somewhere ... where do I look for it?

Re: [OT] Is it HOT enough for youse?

It's not often that Darwin is cooler than (most of) the rest of the country... 25 degrees now.. was probably about 33 or 34 today, bucketed down rain from about 1 until 3... and has been lovely and cool ever since :)

Re: Snakes, Snakes, Snakes

I found a snake curled up under the cache container for "Crater Lake" (NT) on Saturday. No idea what sort of snake it was, it was nearly 2m long and very thin and was a yellowish sorta colour. I dropped the cache quick smart and waited a few metres away until it slithered off in the opposite directi...

Re: OT: Breathalyser with GPS

I think that's a bloody good idea.. especially for drink driving incidents that result in a court appearance. That little bit of extra evidence can only be a good thing when it comes to keeping 'bloody idiots' off the road. (Can imagine it could be a bit frustrating for the cops using them on days w...

Re: Where do you see geocaching in the next 10 years?

As a newbie, I've seen a few pages on cache placement, I've seen a few threads aimed at newbies in different forums - but as a newbie where the hell do you start? There is quite a lot of info out there, some of it is contradictory (which is understandable given some people are hiding stuff where sno...

Re: Cache hints

Oh I'll still log it.. just as a note rather than a DNF. I won't feel lousy about yet another DNF, but the owner will still knowed I at least went to the general vicinity and attempted their cache. I've had a few DNF's that were simply a case of muggles being around, and added to quite a few other l...

Re: Cache hints

Handy thread for this newbie. I've logged a few DNF's for caches I went looking for but didn't find because of muggle traffic... won't be doing that again!

Re: Do we get double points for visiting last 5 geocaches TWICE?

I lost a pair of sunglasses last Wednesday. I tried to find them but had no luck. No luck finding the cache either!! Went back the next day and found the cache. No luck with the glasses though. Thankfully they were a busted old pair of sunnies (crack through one of the lenses) that I was only wearin...
