Re: Three states in a day
Perhaps, though I don't think Victoria to South Australia via Broken Hill is achievable in less than an hour.lemmykc wrote:About 60 odd people have done the same thing.... in less than an hour I believe.....

Three states in a day
I'm sure I'm not the first to do this and perhaps others have done better, either in number of states or caches per a state. But we were driving from Melbourne to Flinders Ranges, camping in Mildura overnight and decided to swing by Broken Hill to check it. This presented me with an opportunity I'd ...

Re: Crooked forest
You are all missing the obvious... Do you recall The Tunguska plains event? ( no not a geocaching event) one thorey is an exploding ufo caused the decimation of the forest there. Perhaps this forest survived having a huge saucer land on it whilst the trees were quite young, and has since recovered ...

iPhone Apps for geocaching
I got one of the new iPhones recently and it occurred to me that I should probably install one of the geocaching apps. Though the question is which one? Has anyone tried any of the others? Or should I just grab the Groundspeak app? Some of them are just as expensive as the Groundspeak one, so they'd...

Re: Stats showing caches as archived
The way our system works is that if we don't recieve updates for a cache in a cartain period of time, our system presumes it has been archived. Thanks for the info. So I guess these caches are ones that have already been imported by other GCA users. So when all my other Euro finds get marked as arc...

Stats showing caches as archived
Since caching in Europe, I noticed my finds on archived has gone up enormously. Sure enough they show up in my list of finds on GCA, though they are not actually archived on GC.com, at least the ones I randomly checked. From memory they showed up as archived from the moment they were imported. Any i...

Re: An afternoon caching ends with police questioning!!!!
When it comes to safety for children I am quite happy to be in the "suspicious until proven wrong" category  Could be a double edged sword I suppose. Good that people are caring enough to show some concern, though at the same time would hate to think that a man can't take his own kids out wit...

Somehow I don't think ribbons would go down too well in any kind of state/national park. Unless perhaps you had to look really hard to see them. Also the littering argument for the actual cache would have to be a grey area if anything. If you hide a cache with the intention of maintaining it, they'd...

The queries are pretty simple so shouldn't strain the server too much, but let's not ALL post one :-) In terms of order, I get them out in the following manner: Date Logid So if you log a cache later in the week, as long as the date is right it will end up in the right area, but probably at the end...

By the look of the examples below, we seem to "hit an area" with lots of finds <2km from the previous one. Numbers hounds or petrol conservationists?

Well in my case, probably because I do a lot of caching by bicycle. So I might plan a bike ride that involves a few caches though naturall...

Thanks for not only explaining how the value is calculated, but also going to the effort of demonstrating it with real data. I think I vaguely remember doing something like this in high school, though maths is far more interesting with a real world application.

So now it is just do...

Lies, damned lies, and statistics
It's been a while since I've studied any form of statistics, that said I seem to know most of the terms. Though I have a question or two about the statistics in the cacher profiles (i.e. my own ) on GCA, so hope this is the best place to ask and hope it hasn't been discussed here (though googling "s...
