Re: Senate - Call for Nominations for 2016/2017

Isn't firsny nominated for Western Australia? If he isn't then I would stand for WA. Sorry for the late entry. Just thought firsny was doing it.

Seems like I missed the thread and the vote.

So be it.

Re: 2016 / 2017 Game

Not sure what it means in reality but the summer games should be about "bringing people together". The gnomes did this very effectively as people talked about where they were, swapped, hid and found them. Not sure a dZ based game is inclusive enough. I've never done the olympics / federation challen...

Re: Trophies

Seeing the ramped up rewards for the new reverse cache got me thinking some of the other trophies might deserve a shift too. The really rare cache types like Beacon, Podcache and to a lesser extent night caches might need some tweeking. As optimistic as I am, I dont think there will ever be 1,000 o...

Re: Trigpoints: Is there a point 0,0 in Australia?

I've seen a point in perth cbd where it says all distances were measured from (in the old days). So maybe when it was relevant was before the Commonwealth so unlikely to exist??

Re: History Cache

Not sure I would go for it but as long as it was clear on the cache page then why not give it a go?

uribeacon

I've been searching for a promising non-garmin beacon cache. This tech looks promising (though expensive). https://learn.adafruit.com/google-physical-web-uribeacon-with-the-bluefruit-le-friend/getting-started It seems to require shortened uri (??) url. Can the devs provide a shortened link to either...

Re: Is there a point to puzzle caches?

Sort of the same when someone logs a high terrain cache saying "another cacher brought it down for them to sign".

Re: What can Geocaching Australia do for you in 2016?

Sounds like an "Eco Event". Similar principle to a CITO. Otherwise you could make an "eco cache" with an ALR of the photo of the tree that you planted? Another idea is that the group has the "codeword" which they can control and therefore validate your find. Though setting the weird world of geocach...

Re: What can Geocaching Australia do for you in 2016?

Maybe we have over thought it? Guessing if a group would like cachers to visit / help / photo a location, make a traditional. An obvious box on a post with a visitors book/log book. If it gets muggled, then all you need is to replace the book. However it doesn't raise the requirement of it being an ...

Re: A Reverse Geocache

Ok.

Hopefully we can all agree on it needing to be a physical object, not an app on a phone.

I would think the wherigo's are a software version of a reverse cache.

Re: A Reverse Geocache

Did the Senate define what makes a reverse geocache? I would say it would be defined as : electronic not a mobile phone gps enabled guides you to set gps location defined by lon/lat, unknown to the finder Does it need to have a log book? A classic reverse geocache opens a box at the final coords to ...
