I had fun looking at this site a while ago comparing all the changes from the first edition to the current one. It is extremely interesting to see how MUCH a place has changed in the last 40 years. A great historical resource, but for geocachingÂ… :?:

Recommendations for Melbourne detailed maps and a base map would also be really appreciated. IÂ’m thinking about getting OziExplorer, but would like to know what maps are available and have a look at them before getting the program. It will only be as good as the maps I can find for it and I canÃ...

All of the above, although I usually go with either Kate or my father. Geocaching is one thing we can do without fighting (only if I navigate).

Take your wife/girlfriend and /or kids. They are very useful for finding things that are low down and they also have a little more patience. you obviously have never cached with my wife ;) After 10 minutes searching she gets frustrated and walks off...:D Nor mine... Although caching is so muc...

We have both those things, but unfortunately the camera is back with Canon for 3 weeks to be repaired. It was only a few weeks old when it started to periodically take pink, very low contrast photos. At other times it would over-expose photos by 1 – 2 stops. It was only a week old when it starte...

Kate and I got home last night after a long drive of about 1130 km from Walgett and a total trip distance of about 3500 km. We had a great time (Kate particularly on the second day) at the Beni weekend. We were very impressed with all the organisation and effort that the Bronze had put into setting ...

Alex goes to great Heights is the biggest cache that I have found. Although the description of this cache says that it is 5 litres. I think it is more in the range of 30 to 50 litres; maybe a zero was left of the end of the number in the description. The cache is packed with excellent things too. I...

Biggles Bear beat you :!:, but thank you Leek for being the second geocacher to wish us a happy Christmas.

The GeoQuacks would like to also wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas, filled with lots of successful finds and maybe a few new fancy receivers, maps, PDAs or $2 shop items.

Cache icons

I've only been geocaching this year and they have changed the cache icons at least twice over that time. Does anyone know why?

I personally liked the last incarnation. They were a more upmarket version of the originals (for me at least).

Re: Vicraods

I agree, except that a good 2x4 gravel road is marked in the same way as a 4x4 track only accessible in good weather.

It's from 1966, when the first edition of Melways was published. It did take them a number of years to do all the cartography, so there may be some things that were out of date by the time it was published. While I'm sure that the maps would be useless for geocaching, they are a great history lesson...

The GeoQuacks are engaged!

Kate and I got engaged last Thrusday and I thought that I would put up a note on this site in case any of the people that I met briefly on Mission Possible were interested. I guess that this means that geocaching hasnÂ’t frightened Kate away, and now it canÂ’t. (Kate and her younger bro...
