Re: Newbie thread: Which Magellan handheld GPS to buy?
Agreed, I think the 'free' upgrade was for select purchases, but it does seem at least that there is an upgrade! Got to love that

Re: Newbie thread: Which Magellan handheld GPS to buy?
I haven't looked into the maps issue yet. I'm sure they'll put out updated maps eventually, but will that mean more $$ :( Well - I wouldn't hold your breath!! Have a look at this announcement on one of the Explorist forums: http://www.exploristforum.com/forums/general-510-610-710/bad-news-from-jeff...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Magellan handheld GPS to buy?
Yeah they do cut through batteries a bit, but once again I can't compare to Garmin. I find I can stretch their life a bit by using the 12v adaptor when I jump back in the car. Works great if I'm doing numerous caches in a day. Doubles their life at the very least. I haven't tried it yet, but Tuena m...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Magellan handheld GPS to buy?
I bought my sister a $50 GC unit for her birthday and she loves it. I went with the 710 and love that too, it's the complete unit, does everything I want and more. I initially had problems with getting my pc to communicate with the Geocaching.com website, but that turned out to be a windows issue, n...

Hey there Gpskyp, welcome aboard!
Maybe you could team up with someone who has an awesome Magellan 710, that could help with your navigation problems.

Re: I have a Newbie headache
Thanks again for the help guys I went to the GCA site and realised pretty quickly you have to log it where you found it. So if I ever create a cache, would it be better to log it on GCA only, and make it Aussie exclusive, or GA so it's worldwide? If you logged on both sites would it double list on G...

Re: I have a Newbie headache
Hey mtrax, thanks for your help. Magellan communicator is supposed to be the plug in so the you can upload from the site through your PC to your GPS. I was thinking it could be that as well, but my phone doesn't have the plugin, and it will allow me to access the Magellan tab. It will then ask me to...

I have a Newbie headache
Hey all, I have looked around the various sites and this forum, and the more I read the more confused I become :? I recently picked up a Magellan Explorist 710, which seems to be doing a pretty good job at the moment. I am finding my way around the unit slowly, most of the functions are quite intuit...
