Re: Android Geocaching Apps

Maverick is pretty handy as a basic mapping app.

GPS Status is also a handy app to have around.

c:Geo impresses me more and more each time I use it....fantastic for a free app

Re: Google Maps - Updated?

The update coincides with the free Google Navigation now being available for Android phones in Australia. My guess is that they are now using their own data (derived from Streetview cars or other sources) rather that licensing third party data to avoid license payments etc for the Google Navigation.

Re: Itunes/Ipod?

I don't use a dedicated mp3 player these days. I use my Android phone for any media playing while out and about, but I mainly listen to podcasts and audio books...not too much music. I use MediaMonkey and XBMC for my music collection at home. Likewise, I've not been too impressed with Apple's "smart...

Because it's made by Apple, who like to make things harder than they should be. #-o While I appreciate that the comment is probably tongue-in-cheek, Not at all...I was being completely serious. It's one of the reasons I'd rather have bubonic plague than own an Apple product. But that's a whole diff...

Re: Itunes/Ipod?

Because it's made by Apple, who like to make things harder than they should be. #-o Basically, an ipod will only sync with one itunes library, so if the itunes library on your new computer is empty, then so is any ipod you sync with it. You need to transfer your library from the old computer to the ...

Re: Any Android Owners?

Brut mod seems like hard work to set that up for every day use I was looking at Co-pilot for Android but didn't see any obvious support in GSAK, but primary use would be for standard street nav. with voice directions otherwise I would just use my Dakota 20. Brut maps couldn't be easier to use. You ...

Re: Any Android Owners?

Yep...it is nice!

If you haven't discovered it yet, you can go in to "Brut Settings" and enable caching of map tiles, so you still have navigation available even if you're out of mobile range.

Re: Any Android Owners?

Geohunter does look very good. I'll have to give it a try. Nice write-up CraigRat...I've bookmarked your site now too :)

Have you tried the modified Google Maps Navigation (Brut) yet? It's working well now, and can be installed on an un-rooted phone.

Re: Any Android Owners?

Try c:geo for live access to GC.com. Works really well.

For offline maps you can use Maverick, Mapdroyd, or the Brut modded Google Maps. All have different strengths depending on what you want them for.

Re: Dakota 20 - hints not in cache notes

You don't need to use a macro, but I personally use the Colorado Export Macro (it works for Dakota too) as it gives me more control over what caches are sent to the GPS. To view hints, you need to go back to the main menu, then press the "Geocaches" button, then select "View Hints". If you use the "...

Re: Garmin Birdseye

You can download the high res images to Basecamp without a subscription to see the quality available, but it will only send a low quality "demo" image to the unit itself. Also, you can send the images to the memory card by right clicking on the "Birdseye Imagery" link in the left pane of Basecamp, a...

Or, you could open the page you want to create the shortcut to, then drag the little icon next to the url (web address) on to the desktop.
