Re: Those Badges and those Darned logs!

Those massive pasted logs do annoy me. It always means skipping to the end to see if there's anything that relates directly to the cache. Most of the time there isn't much at all.

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

I ended up buying my eTrex 20 from Johnny Appleseed in St Kilda a few weeks ago. Still waiting for the free topo maps to come from Garmin though. It's a good little unit and should suit my uses nicely.

Re: Android phones for geocaching

Thanks for the feedback - it all sounds very promising! It's the phone I've got my eye on, and am just trying to decide whether to buy it soon or to wait until around October, when a number of new phones are coming out (which would theoretically push down the price or existing phones). Kogan current...

Hmmm this is quite tempting. Thanks for the heads up! I'm still trying to work out which model to go for.

Re: Android phones for geocaching

What's it like for caching on? I was thinking of getting one. Is it as impressive as it looks?

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

Thanks for your thoughts, folks. I mainly want it for caching, so if there's no great all-rounder I'd definitely go for caching related features, and get a car GPS separately sometime later. Both the 450 and 550 look appealing, so I'd be happy with either at the right price. Where did you buy your r...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

I killed my eTrex H in January and have been relying on my unsatisfactory smartphone since. I'm expecting a few hundred dollars back from my tax return, so am looking at upgrading. I've not been seriously looking for yonks though, so hardly know where to start. I'd like something that I can go runni...

Re: Three states in a day

I did four states in a day in the US, but they're a lot smaller there. :)

Re: c:geo offline maps

I've got that option selected in c:geo and it just caches what I load on the phone for future offline use. I've not tried doing it through mapsforge.

Re: Android Geocaching Apps

I finally got an Android phone last week (Desire Z) and downloaded c:geo. So far I'm impressed. As was already mentioned, it doesn't handle multis well, but it's fine for traditionals.

Re: Unfilled log books: Is it just me?

Haha nice one! Personally if there's room on a page under the last log then I always try to fit mine in there. Otherwise it just seems like wasted space. n my mind there is nothing wrong with ensuring all of your CDs are in alphabetical order by artist... then arrange by release date accordingly... ...

Re: How many hides is too many?

Most of my favourites are multis, but I don't do as many multis as I'd like due to the preparation involved. They are much more satisfying than traditionals though. On another note, I don't mind CBDs and inner suburbs having lots of caches because if I'm interstate I often don't have transport and t...

Re: Google Maps - Updated?

I assume they use a few data sources, but some of it comes from PSMA, which is often seriously out of date. The PSMA base map has roads which were planned but never built, and train lines which were removed 40 years ago.
