Post Australia 2008 geocoin
The exchange rate is so awesome at the moment (rapidly touches wood - it looks to stay put ) have been getting inquiries about this for a while so thought I'd open a thread for everyone to post their thoughts on the subject.

Love to see one for 2008 (but then I don't do any of the work!).

The last ones look fantastic, and now that I have got a few coins of my own, I'd love a couple of Aussie ones.

Looks like someone has recovered from the 2007 geocoin exchange rate fluctuations Image

i agree with the idea of brainstorming the 2008 version now, especially with a strong aussie dollar. :P

A couple of simple questions that probably should be asked firstly:

- Forthferalz, are you placing your hand up formally to coordinate the 2008 version..... i'd vote for you. 8)
- Is more assistance (physical, financial, psychological etc) needed than last year, or was that crude model acceptable?

Count me in again, Forthferalz....

mm

PS, can we leave auspost out of the process for now?.....grumble, mumble

The last coins turned out great forthferalz, so yes, a new coin for next year is a great idea. I'm definitely in for several.
Lots of options to go with nowadays, with see through and translucents all the rage now. All we need is a great design!

Again - many thanks for coordinating the 2007 version - what a great job you did. As I have mentioned in recent email correspondence, I think it would be great if you are happy to do this again.

I generally prefer the traditional round geocoin, but another option might be to create one in the shape of Australia - but it is always hard to show Tassie properly.

Another idea I have been thinking about - maybe we could also get a state/territory series happening too at some time - with coordinated designs (rather than each state going alone). I haven't seen any state coins in Australia, but perhaps there are some already. Perhaps floral emblems or state flags etc?? Just a thought.

So basically more of the same or something a little different? I have a few designs sketched out and got pricing estimates made.
Shaped coin might work with Tassie on the back or as a "dangler"!

If i can find the owner of the etrex skippy photo this is my favourite so far as it is caching related. It'll work in any metal- the photo is printed onto aluminium

The other reason I'm asking now is it is probably possible to do all the states without blowing the budget or stressing out by rolling it out slowly over 2-3 months. Sticking on a diffferent cache log photo from each state would be easy.

Another option might be a panorama series with 5 coins - a 'generic' round centre coin for non-collectors + 4 coins with 2 states each - one per side. Min would be 250 sets to make this viable. like this http://www.kayakerinme.com/images/kayakerinme-copperset-obverse.jpg

I would not open reservations to international at all this time - too big a job, many no shows, too much worry over delivery. Selling through third party later will be better.

I'll buy some, as usual, but forget about those silly kangaroos and platypi.

How about putting an emu on next year's coin. I can supply artwork for the emu.

:D:D:D:D:D

Cheers,

glad you mentioned it - an emu is top of my list for the next 3D animal if we go with "more of the same"

Did somebody mention Emus? :D

I have to agree with Tealby - you did a great job with the "2007 Aussie". I'd be very happy to join in the "fun" for a 2008 coin ... or series(!), emus or not.
