Updating 'My Caches' logs and information.

Post by Brother Colin » 04 January 17 10:04 am

Hi,
First thing. Great work with the new server. Noticeably faster. =D> =D> =D>

This has prompted me to try and update all of my GC caches (all 229 of them) :o . I know there are some errors with various logs and other information etc. eg: Some people are shown to have found more than they have actually found and others are the other way around. :?

I tried loading a GC pocket query and only new logs were added and the old logs were not touched.
Would it be possible to delete ALL of my caches and I can then load a file from my GSAK with all logs and details? ( I may need some help with this. )

Is this the best way to go :?:

Cheers

You can't load GCA cache logs like that. Do you just want all your GC caches and logs deleted?

I am wanting to get the logs and thus the information on my GC caches correct.
What is currently saved on this site is incorrect in a few places.

Would the easiest way to correct all of my cache be to delete them all and start again?

I am open to suggestions.

When I look at the figures of those that have found my caches (see my profile) against the figures displayed here, almost every person is incorrect.

I can delete all the logs on your GC caches BUT how are you going to re-import them?
Also, what is wrong with every log? That seems rather weird. There would be a few issues, but almost every person being incorrect?
Maybe if you give some examples of a few that are wrong we can see whether they can be corrected with a less drastic action.

I am currently doing some analysis between the contents of my GSAK and a download I have done of the 13000 odd logs that GC has on Brother Colin's 229 caches. My GSAK (which is, almost, a mirror of the GCA database for Australia and NZ) has 60 additional logs than the number that I got in the download. I am currently checking to see where the discrepency is. If it comes to the drastic method of deleting all logs on his caches I can import the ones from the download to make them the same as GC but I will let you know the results of my investigation first.

I have a database in my GSAK called 'My Hides'.

Re; my GSAK 'My Hides' Database.
This morning I deleted it.
Recreated a new claen 'My Hides' database.
Loaded in a new PQ from geocaching.com of my hides.
Loaded in the dozen archived caches to have a complete listing of all of my caches.
Downloaded 'all logs not in database' from geocaching.com
also did a 'refresh cache data'.

I do not believe I can get more 'up-to-date' info on my caches.

Updated my profile on Geocaching.com with new data.

If you goto my profile - click on My Caches - scroll down to 'Finders of my Caches' .... you will see teamdfl has found 211 of my caches. GCA stats show she has found 229. Most (not all) of the top 20 finders of my caches show a difference between what info I get from geocaching.com and what is shown on the GCA website.

I am just wishing to update this info so that GCA is accurate because I like the site and believe the stat should be as close to correct as possible. :D

So my questions are,
Can I create a file of my GSAK database and copy it onto the GCA website?
Will this update the existing data on the GCA website?
If not, would it be easier to delete the existing data on the GCA website and upload a new file from my GSAK?

Cheers

Have you taken into account any finds on your GCA caches? The stats here will reflect both. Your stats at GC (from what I read in your post) are only GC caches.

It's possible that there are some duplicates at GCA, but we're not talking a lot.

If you export a GPX file from GSAK for all of your caches how big is the file? We have a limit of the data size we can import.

I have no GCA caches. So all logs should relate to my GC caches.

I have followed the instructions from here ... http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Uploading_logs

Very helpful. :D

The GPX file loaded, but only uploaded 1 log. :(

Not sure of the size of the file. :?:

What you are trying to achieve is to DELETE logs, then reload them. You're only doing the reload bit at the moment. If the file loads, then it's all good. I've deleted 13,176 logs which are all of the logs against your caches. Reload that file and everything should be back in line.
