Re: Pokemon Go

The Halloween event ran over time and only finished at 0700 today (EDST) when it was expected to end at 1100 yesterday (2 Nov). Back to slogging out 5km per Dratini candy...

But the good news is that as of yesterday I finally caught them all! Was in Brisbane for work and in my spare time managed to find a Kabuto nest and get enough to evolve. Walked enough km on my Omanyte to evolve (1.2 per candy is sooo much easier) and also walked the remaining km on my Grimer to evolve. With those three completed I only needed Lapras.
I was down at South Bank in the evening and ran into the Poke-crowd there. I was told that Lapras spawned at Redcliffe jetty. Everyone there had caught several. With that I headed for a long drive in the very early hours (no daylight saving time so easier to get up early) and found the spot. Someone had lures out and lots of critters were appearing. I got a Dragonair then I heard the magic word 'Lapras' and there it was. A few goes and I had it! So I've got 142 (+1) of the possible Pokemon in Australia (extra is Tauros from North America).

Now I don't think I'll do much with it except try to build up a decent Dragonite. Awaiting the next generation and the legendaries.

Ditto anyone yet?

(it's out there - catch those pidgeys, rattatas and zubats and see what happens - no luck for me yet)

Exactly my experience. It's made me try and catch the blighters I normally ignore thus running down my pokeball supply.

My usual ignore list: Ekans, Gastly, Goldeen, Pinsir, Zubat, Golbat, Staryu, Kangaskhan, Clefairy = all obnoxiously difficult to catch - high escape and/or flee rate.

But I've gone back to catching most of those just in case. Double points and stardust too.

Just after lunch I got a Ditto from a pidgey. Yay! Mind you I have no Pokeballs left, only half a dozen Great Balls and most of my Ultra Balls. This little adventure has made me throw Ultra Balls at pidgeys and then they run away. Arrggghhhh!!!

Still on the hunt! ...just hoping that snorlax I finally can track, run to, throw 45 ultraballs and berries at doesn't decide it is a ditto...

I ended up with 3 yesterday. One by myself and then one with each of the kids. The youngest ended up with a CP 10 which is useless in a Gym as it can't get to the first attack before being stunned into oblivion. But it does fill in her 'dex entry.

They're not uncommon, but they're not common either. I doubt that they would dare to set a Dragonite to be a Ditto. I think (hope) they know better than that.

The word on The Silph Road is that they come from Pidgey, Rattata, Magikarp and Zubat with others unconfirmed. I'm down to Ultraballs and have caught about 100 of the above without a Ditto...

So in other words it's a cunning plan to get us to catch all the low CP crap that we've started ignoring?? Clever...

Delighted the tracker is up though. A curious interface, but just nice to know that you can hone in on something in particular at last. The double XP/dust has been handy this week too.

Finally caught my first Dragonite the other week too.... but then discovered it was 42CP. Insult, meet injury....

Yes it made me look for the common rubbish and ignore most other creatures. Finally it paid off last night with a Ditto from a Pidgey. When you see 'Oh' instead of Gotcha it's pretty exciting the first time.

I'm not that keen on the tracker. It seems to indicate Pokemon that are a long way off but near a Pokestop and ignore those in between. Also difficult to see what each Pokemon is on the tracker without my reading glasses! Whinge...

My first Dragonite was about 150. Evolved a huge (2000 plus) monster eventually thanks to all that buddy candy. Then found another about 130 the other day.

Noticed a funny thing today. Was at a Level 3 gym, and planning on doing a bit of training, as it was a fellow Insight gym and I was hoping to squeeze my Flareon into the fourth available space. Soon realised, after many rounds of battling and a yet dropping prestige, that someone else was battling against the gym. The noticed the fireworks that you see when a gym is being fought.

However, NOBODY was around. This is an isolated spot, tucked between a freeway and a creek, where you can't access it without being seen - especially not for something as prolonged as several battle rounds.

And then, when it was down to Level 1, they disappeared. No more battles....

Has me wondering if Niantic may be automatically battling gyms and making them accessible for junior players. I do note that there seem to be a lot more low level gyms these days, changing hands a lot more. I even picked up a vacant gym up the road the other day, which i would have thought was unheard of....

They're called spoofers. They spoof (falsify) their location to battle gyms, then install their own Pokemon to maintain a maximum of 10 coin collections per day. They also spoof locations to collect rare pokemon without ever leaving their basement. They're against the ToS and Niantic are trying to ban them. We just have to put up with them :-(
