New Team Needs Name

Post by The Ginger Loon » 23 June 03 4:18 pm

Greetings all,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend (actually my ex-boss, so I suppose that clears the way for him to be my friend). I've introduced him to the singular delights of this sport of ours and he is hooked. He's all ready to get involved in the game but there is one thing stopping him. He is stuck for a team name. So I'm asking you my fellow cachers to suggest some names for his consideration.

Some info to help your suggestions;

Something outdoor-sy would be good
Possibly with "geo" in it. (Actually he really likes the name GeoCoopers but that is obviously taken).
He drives a Land Rover Discovery, nicknamed "The Disco"

He realises the importance of brand awareness in the high powered world of geocaching so nothing offensive or hard to pronounce.

I can't guarantee my friend will adopt any of the names suggested, but let's see what happens.

Regards,
Loon

It must be GeoDuck.
Geo, you have mentioned above.
The Disco= Disco Duck= Duck.
so GeoDuck, and if you want outdoorsy
Geowoodduck,

this was all typed in good nature please do not take offence :D

hmm... not much of a brief

combining his car with the act of finding a cache, we suggest "geocovery"

How about Geolanders ie Land Rover Discovery.
or on a lighter note Getabouts - it does have Geo in it.

Thanks for your suggestions so far guys, I'll put them to him today.
To extend the brief a bit (and thereby not making it brief at all) his outdoor activities include;

Bushwalking

Mountain Biking

4wd-ing

Scuba Diving

Beer

Rum

Not sure about his nickname, although we did try his porn star name (First pet name & street name where you lived as a kid) with little sucess. He does have a pretty warped sence of humour though...

Mmmmmm Rum. How about Drop Bear. The rum reminds me of the bundy ads, and it's outdoor related.

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the search to find a team name for my friend. Some of your suggestions were very helpful and others were, well let's say, not so helpful.

I won't announce what name he chose, I'll leave that up to him, but I will tell you that "Ftmnch" was a close second.

I'm sure you will all welcome him to the geocaching community and you will soon see him logging Smileys (and maybe a few Frownies) over at the secondary site.

Thanks again,
Loon

Well spotted leek...

Actually it's quite funny 'cos that's not the name he originally registered. I was about to post that he wasn't the Geo-Rovers...

Well, it looks like I've been sprung.

Geo Rovers was the name we picked. I liked Ftmnch, but mrs rover wasn't so keen on the Orgo bit - apparently people say it all the time. Whats scary is the similar thought processes here to what I'd been thinking of.

Anyway we had to settle on something quickly. We did Lovers Jump for the first time a couple of weeks ago but couldn't log it, cos we didn't have a name, plus we had planned a trip up to the Newnes plateau last weekend and didn't want to have to re-do them as well. So we did Lovers Jump again on Saturday and did Black Panther, Green is the colour (but the Ginger Loon won't let me admit that) and A Day At The Office, which was truly excellent, on Sunday.

Anyway, Geo Rovers are now in business and thanks for all the suggestions.

Cheers,
Jon
