Just wondering - how many Australian geocachers have paid for Premium Membership. I would love to know what you think about it :?:

I don't see that it really gets me anything. I don't use the PDA stuff (now that I have the Ozi waypoint file), and I don't want more than 100 caches in my watchlist. I don't know of any subscriber-only caches either (although maybe I don't know about them because I'm not a subscriber...)

I find the ability to generate a .LOC/.GPX file on a flexible set of parameters and have it emailed to me useful. I have "All in NSW", "All in NZ", "New in the last week" and "Found in the last week" set up. (You can see the format on http://geocachers.net.nz)

Mainly, though, it was my Protestant work ethic, that felt uncomfortable getting so much fun without contributing something to the resource that makes it possible.

Getting the caches and cache pages delivered to my inbox every day is worth it. Now that I have the cache descriptions on my iPaq I don't need to use any paper.

The abilty to write custom quereis and get waypoints and cache description emailed is well worth the money. It's saved us a heap of time and paper.

I have found it now saves me a fortune in phone calls when I find myself in an area I didn't expect to be in and don't have a printout for the local cache. I just carry them all around in my PDA now.

Sometimes the pocket query text is close to useless.
The pocket query background is white, so far I haven't found a way to change that. The latest Red Dwarf cache has white writing on a black background. On the pocket query white on white is a touch hard on the eyes.

Q: How does the download to PDA thing work? Do you need any software on the PDA site for this?

You need to get hold of Mobibook reader. There is a link on the geocaching.com site for where you can get it.

I just got Premimum membership and have no complaints.
I can now have every cache in the state on my Psion 5 palmtop, complete with descriptions. No more wasting time printing out cache sheets, don't need them, and it's obviously good for the environment too.

The GPX files allow me to still use CacheMonkey, GeoMap and OziExplorer without fear of the GC.com site doing something to screw up CacheMonkey.

It's also kinda nice to know I have given something back to GC.com

EcoDave :)

EcoDave, I'm curious - can you read the description for 'Blue Midget' on the Psion?

You would think they'd have the background colour configurable :)

I changed the colour.

Let me know if you can view it on your PPC and the site okay.

It's hard to find a colour that works well on white AND black ;)

I signed up for membership about a week ago - thought it would be a good idea while the Aus $ is doing well. Cost was approx $45 for a 1 year subscription. Love the custom queries - it has saved me a lot of research time for my upcoming holiday to Europe!

For example, I can pick a cache in London, and get the filter to create a list of caches within a particular distance from that point. Unfortunately, you can only have 5 of these filters at any one time, so I'm going to have to get creative to get everything I want before I leave!

I saw the colour change Red Dwarf - that was better. I have since downloaded iSilo and iSiloX following Bear_Left's suggestion and am using that to make and view html pages. They are a bit easier to view than the mobipocket output from the secondaty site.
