NASA Map downloads

Post by riblit » 04 April 03 7:45 pm

NASA have satellite images of all the land mass of the earth available for downloading at <a href="https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/">zulu</a>. For anyone with a late version of Oziexplorer they make an interesting map to display waypoints on. I have all the map files if anyone is interested.
They are infrared images and appear resonably well calibrated. The terrain stands out well on them, especially the mountains area.

Ok so why does the html not work?
(PK says- it is now)

I downloaded all the maps they have on line for Australia and some of New Zealand and other places of interest to me. I haven't ordered any of their Cds.

I can cut a CD or DVD for anyone who doesn't have the download time available.

Pesky and others,

From the URL I posted, click the 'select image' radio button and the click on a square on the map.
Another window will open with options to view the map with Plug-in, No Plug-in and with Java.
Under that is a link titled "Download MrSID Image" Click that and save the image to your drive. All of Australia comes in over a Gigabyte. I blew the remainder of my 3Gig limit last month on these.

The server is the same one that lpi use for their parish maps although they don't have the image download option.

If you don't have a version of OZI that reads MrSID files, I can send you a MrSID viewer that will convert the files to uncompressed TIFF
