Post Puzzle Solving Resources
Hi all,

I'm looking for resources, books, online, whatever, to help me learn more about solving puzzle caches, and creating them. I'm not the smartest cookie and get really lost trying to figure out codes via my mobile phone when under time pressure, so I'd love to learn more of this in my spare time.

Unfortunately I don't live near places that have regular puzzle events, so you can count them out for me, but might as well list them for others.

Thanks in advance,
No Tomorrow

Geocaching Toolbox has a lot of resources covering a fairly wide range of topics, not just puzzle cypher type stuff:

Winter Dragon's page has a lot of helpful stuff:

The Geocaching Australia has several tools for creating and decoding some of the more regular methods:

I dare say there are a whole lot more out there as well.

If you use an iPhone there is a free app called ARG Tools that allows you to decode ciphers and lots of other cool things in the field, not sure if there is an Android version.

Not realising before my trip that I was heading this way or would have an hour or two to cache on my own, I didn't have "time" to solve the conglomeration of GCA puzzles at Whiteman WA.
http://geocaching.com.au/my/query/gmap/8665.
I gave the first one a solid 5 hours with notepad and all the GCA tools going back and forward and all to no avail. Also nightmared it. Sitting around outside the car museum I had a brief look at a few others in the series and seeing they were all confusing, I wandered off to quickly find the local moveables instead - which I ran out of time for! Grrrrr

I decided, NEVER AGAIN! Next time this happens I will be more prepared mentally.

And although I'll probably never get back to try it again - I still can't figure out that smile one near Kings Park that I printed out and had sitting at my study for weeks before I went away. So not smart, but so wish I was.

The outer ring (C ??) of the these puzzles are all 'ENIGMA' cipher puzzles with the first one (C 01) being the most tedious but once solved will provide the settings page that is used for all the rest of the ring. There are various twists on the rest just to keep them up at D5 so extra points were gained in recent game.

The inner part of the geoart are all a bit more conventional type of puzzles in the main so relatively more easier than the outer ring. The geoart was started 2 years ago with most containers for the inner part in place at that time but the Scavenge game provided an incentive to complete them all.

The links provided in a previous post will help solve a lot of the inner ring puzzles once you determine the type of puzzle but some of the rest are just  .

Have a look at the Tasmania The Apple Isle caches at https://www.geocaching.com/map/default. ... 55394&z=12, they are a good kickstarter. I've got them all (at then end) when I planned to go to Tasmania but drove past it at high speed as we had other things to do....

Feel free to contact me if you are stuck.

Edwin
