Does anyone know what this is?

Post by Laighside Legends » 03 April 16 8:07 pm

This popped up in a local magazine that is read by a non-GCA cacher in the area. They showed me and asked if I knew what it was. Note the GCA URL. Anyone know more? And does GCA know about it? The cacher who showed me was concerned that their (non-GCA) caches would get destroyed.

Nope, we know nothing. Most likely a typo.

Out of interest, I have to ask why would someone would think their non GCA caches would get destroyed?

Interesting, if they are going to do it via Groundspeak I expect they would be paying for a Geocaching Tour. Maybe the person promoting it is planning on using GCA which would eliminate proximity issues etc, sounds like they are going to put out their own caches.

I don't know the person at the bottom of the article, perhaps ask in the SA facebook pages and someone will know them.

My guess was either a typo or a newbie who hasn't worked out the difference between Groundspeak and GCA.

There aren't any physical GCA caches in or near Port Adelaide and the site Tuena has found shows photos of Groundspeak caches. Hence they thought their Groundspeak caches were going to get destroyed by the large number of newbies finding them due to this promotion. Still not really sure if I agree with that or not...

I'll leave that to the person who found the article - they just asked me since they thought it was something to do with GCA (and I am one of the few SA cachers that keeps up with what GCA is up to).

The article supplies a landline and email address, so sounds like they will welcome enquiries.

The first caching team that came to mind from Tuena's links were "TeamUSBUSU" (cacher ID: 998726), but the names don't match. Odd that they'd mention GCA in the article....

There are pics and names of the members of Worst Cache Scenario on this page:
http://worstcachescenario.com/#introductions

No cacher names though. Someone here will know these faces surely. Someone amongst them likes to take photos of their friendly little 'bomb' (if that's what it is) around the place.

'WorstCacheScenario' is actually the caching team name I suspect.

For those that are interested in where this ended up...

This webpage http://geocaching.history.sa.gov.au/ came up on facebook and was discussed in some depth. It then went live on May 1st.

They placed 4 new caches of there own and used 8 existing caches. After discussing with someone who is also involved with History SA, the consensus was that is was so badly organised/promoted that very few people from history SA are going to be able to work out how caching works or how to get started. (one of the caches used is a 7 stage multi and a very hard one at that) From a caching point of view, I looks like it will have little effect on anything and will quickly be forgotten. And we get 4 new caches from them (I've only found 1 so far, but they appear to be above average quality caches).

Thanks everyone for your assistance.
