Map cache ID codes ZTB

Post by Fargo 1953 » 21 January 16 12:32 pm

Hi all. Brand new to this.
On the geocache map around my vicinity they have different Letters in the teardrop pointer..Z, T, B.
What do these mean?
Is there a list of these codes on the forum?

They refer to the cache type but they're not very intuitive.

B Movable
C Cache In Trash Out
D Beacon
E Event
H Burke and Wills
I WhereIGo
L Locationless
M Multi
N Night Cache
O Other
P Podcache
R Eathcache
T Traditional
U Unknown or Mystery Cache
V Virtual
W Webcam
X Letterbox
Y Mega Event
Z TrigPoint

I want to have special icons for the cache types but no-one will design them, so we do with strange letters :-)

Thanks CaW.

Yeah, not "intuitive".

Now I just need to find out when I would use these:

H Burke and Wills? (only "Dig Tree" comes to mind. Do I bury the cache?)
L Locationless? (no idea)
N Night Cache (good to go to at night e.g. top of a hill to see the stars?)
R Earthcache? (some environment thing?)
T Traditional? (Indigenous?)
V Virtual (mmm...just an app...not a "real" cache)

BTW I love the concept of CITO (although on another site I read it as CIRO.."Rubbish".

Burke and Wills you can't create. They are special once-off caches.
Check the wiki for the locationless, night and earth caches.
A traditional cache is one at the posted co-ordinates.
A virtual cache is one where for reasons of security, environmental concerns, law, etc, a physical container is not permitted.
Please have a look at the wiki it contains a lot of information that will answer these and more questions.

Heres the list of cache types on the wiki:
http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Cache_type

I've added the map codes to that page.

That does look good! - Just filling in the blanks and letting you know that CITOs are a marker with a "C".

Years ago I did suggest the things labelled "Icons" be used as the "Map markers". No one liked that idea then and I'm guessing they still don't...

I picked the term because it made sense to me - no complaints so far. :)
