Unpublished GC Cache appears on GSAK & GCA

Post by Tuena » 13 September 14 11:32 pm

GC5C0T5 - Mannings Lookout by mollylangton3

Placed 31/8/14, published (according to GSAK) on 11/9/14 by i,riblit.

Checked Groundspeak for number & CO but no record of hide.

How does this happen?

GC caches are sometimes published and then quickly unpublished if there is a problem that wasn't initially picked up (or sometimes they were published by mistake). If GCA (or your GSAK) gets updated in the meantime it will show as published. With no logs it will soon get marked as archived.

You should always check your GSAK database for caches that haven't been updated with your PQ, as archived caches and ones such as this do not appear in pocket queries.

I figure if they haven't been updated for 7 days then it is safe to delete them from the database.

Thanks for that explanation. Manning Lookout is in Morton National Park so permission to place is required from NPWS. This should have occurred to me at the time but didn't! Clueless - #-o

I'm still using that Marvellous Macro so all will be well.

I've archived it here.

This has been discussed on the local FB page. Riblit mistakenly published the cache, it is in NPWS controlled land and doesn't have NPWS consent, hence the publication being retracted.
