Oldest unchanged cache in Australia
Last night I did the Devil Bend cache GCAD which is quite old, but,
- it is not in the original location
- it does not have the original container
-it does not have the original owner
Recently there was another discussion about the changed nature of "The Oldest Cache in Australia" GC3E Lane Cove, which is vastly changed from its original form.
GC7A Melbourne's 1st still has the original location and owner, but an updated container. Probably more authentically the oldest that Lane Cove, but still not quite completely unchanged.
This prompted me to wonder what the oldest original cache might be in Australia.
That is, original location, original container and same owner. Actually the owner part is probably not that important.
Any candidates?

Yes, I think I'd support you on that having read the logs.

Sounds probably right. GC114 hidden 1/1/2001 in SA is not long after and was certainly the original container when I found it a few years ago.
Need to make a trip to find Frying Pan one day though.

Probably the original container, but I got the impression the road to it might not have been there when it was hidden. The ultimate geotrail.Richary wrote:Sounds probably right. GC114 hidden 1/1/2001 in SA is not long after and was certainly the original container when I found it a few years ago.

Re: Oldest unchanged cache in Australia
Yes I mentioned Frying Pan in another thread thinking it would be the only original cache of the oldies. And only 49 finds in all these years. Chose it for our 2000th find, being a 2000 cache. It looks way out in the never-never but really it's an hour's drive from Dungog in a 2WD - we went there when the roads were very wet and slippery in a 2WD and camped. It's about five minutes' walk from the campsite. Pretty simple really. I recommend it.

Re: Oldest unchanged cache in Australia
I have some photos of the Frying pan cache taken when we found it in early 2012. Everything in it was pretty much as would have been when it was hidden, there was a list of original contents to compare with.
I shall have to sort them out and post.
Happy New Year all

You can't fool me, Dungog isn't a real place, it's like Narnia or Mordor or Dubbo

Isn't Dungog on one of our bank notes?

More useless trivia ... They also filmed a lot of "Tomorrow When the War Began" at Dungog
I found it during a HAVOC camping event, it's a nice area to explore.

Might seem like useless info to others but I found it very interesting and now will try to find our DVD so that I can see if I recognise Dungog in it.Zalgariath wrote:More useless trivia ... They also filmed a lot of "Tomorrow When the War Began" at Dungog

Thanks Zalgraith.
