GC finds not appearing in GCA

Post by spatialriq » 09 July 13 10:22 am

Pretty sure I've asked this before ages ago (but can't find the thread  ) ... why doesn't GCA display all my finds? For example, I found this cache http://coord.info/GC4F8AA on 1st July, over a week ago yet it's still not showing here?

I found the import bit on the GCA front page but not sure about the import formats.

Our feed isn't perfect and getting less perfect by the day. Sometimes finds fall thru the cracks, especially on busy caches.

To fix your issue, given you are a GC premium member, go to http://geocaching.com/pocket and scroll down to 'My Finds' and click the 'Add to queue' button.

In a few minutes you will get an email from Groundspeak saying the query is ready. Go back to http://geocaching.com/pocket and click on the 'Pocket Queries Ready to Download' tab and you'll see 'My Finds Pocket Query' in the list. Click on that and it will download a .zip file to your computer.

Open that zip file by clicking on it and you should have a .gpx file with all your finds.
Copy it and save it somewhere on your hard drive.

Go to http://geocaching.com.au/my/import
Make sure the Import Type is set to 'GPX file' then click 'Choose File' and point it to the GPX file you saved earlier and click Import.

Your finds should then be imported.

This is the ONLY way to ensure your stats stay perfect.

Thanks for that. Just tried to upload the .gpx at work but it's not going thru ... I assume it's a work port blocking thingy, so will try again at home. Looking forward to being 'perfect' later today :D

I don't usually wait for the automatic GCA import of GC files. After I log the GC cache, I click on the tab on the cache's page entitled 'download .gpx file' (or similar name) and download that to my computer. Then I go over to the GCA site and use the 'import' function. Have been doing this so long it's second nature, and very easy. No chance then of your GC logs not making it to GCA . . .

I usually do the same as pjmpjm, and import the gpx file for each of my finds after I finish logging for the day.

As an experiment, I just uploaded the zip file for my last query. This resulted in 2 caches & 130 logs being imported. Would it help the feeds if I did this each time I run a query? I only ever run a few queries a week, so I could also run some specific queries & upload them if that would help.

I regularly run update PQs on all states and NZ but they have fallen behind in the last couple of weeks as I am on holidays and getting intermittent Wifi in North Qld. I have a backlog of at least 40 PQs waiting to be imported but that will grow in the next week before I get to the home Wifi.

Like you, I would like to help out. However I suspect that many of us probably run PQs at the same time, my all of NSW run over Wednesday/Thursday so I have the most up to date info to import to the phone/GPS for the weekend. If I run a Thursday night query based on the dates given in the dates we can look up here, and you do the same, it will just result in a duplication of the same data generated within a few minutes of each other.

If the faeries would like some assistance with extra queries on extra days, they are quite welcome to ask via a PM. I think the main problem is new and popular caches getting 5 or more finds between updates.

And I don't usually manually import each find after I have made it, but will check after a couple of days. If it hasn't then appeared in the GCA logs I will go and do it manually.

Same sort of probs as some other folk. I've recently migrated from one username to another on GC. Most of my find logs on GCA are under my old username, but everything is fine under new username on GC. So I've tried the import GPX using the My Finds PQ & it painfully slowly dribbled a few more in. Maybe 5-10 extra finds in 5 mins, then stopped. Tried again with a GSAK export of just my found logs as per wiki, no joy. Even when I restrict it to just 50 or so. I get a "Caches imported: 0 Logs imported: 0" msg but the 50 or so found caches / logs I've fed it are not in there.

I currently have 1292 finds under my GC profile but only 381 under GCA. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason which ones are in or out; eg some from a randomly chosen caching month last year are across but many others not - & this is all way before I did any username changes. Usernames match on both sites. Help! How do I get everything to match the gospel according to GC?

What was the old name/names you had?

Each log has a unique id, if the username has changed it will still be in our system under the old name. Importing the logs again will not update the cacher name.

It's easy for us to fix.

The logs/caches 0 message is because they are already in our system.

We do not feed in from caches outside of Aus/NZ which can cause holes in logs too.

Caches that get lots of visitors sometime have logs missed out too, which is why sometimes updating from a my-finds gpx will add a log from ages ago.

All easily explainable 8)

As always, any issues with stats and logs then please log a support ticket: http://geocaching.com.au/support/
