Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
I may be being overly pedantic, but it looks like there are at least 3 and maybe many more GC caches that are incorrectly listed as NSW, when they are clearly in the Jervis Bay Territory.
http://coord.info/GC3GPA5 for instance.
The map here shows the proper location: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jervis_Bay_Territory
I'm thinking that Groundspeak should recognise our smallest mainland territory and list them as Jervis Bay Territory, not NSW.

Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
Shouldn't they be ACT?
Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
No. Again being pedantic .... ".....it has always been a separate Commonwealth territory. The perception that it is part of the ACT stems from the fact that under the terms of the Jervis Bay Territory Acceptance Act, the laws of the ACT apply to the Jervis Bay Territory."

Don't forget Separate Sovereign State in Australia. Can't expect Groundspeak to know everything about all countries!
Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
Most Australians don't know that Jervis Bay is a separate territory, so how would groundspeak know?
Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
I can't see any caches at Hutt River Province though ? And it's a slightly different discussion - a self declared nation missing from GC.com and a whole territory of mainland Australia missing from GC.com, and several caches shown in totally the wrong state.
I have contacts I can provide feedback to GC.......

I'd take it up with the owners, after all it is them that have selected NSW. I thought most caches were listed as ACT as this is the closest you can get.iamapom wrote:I'm thinking that Groundspeak should recognise our smallest mainland territory and list them as Jervis Bay Territory, not NSW.

Woops... I've got 2 caches out in Booderee National Park. I'm well aware that they are in ACT territory, but I listed them as NSW, after giving it a lot of thought. My reasoning was that if visiting cachers did a PQ by state, then these caches would come up in NSW. Most people don't realise that they are going interstate when they travel to the south headland of Jervis Bay. Happy to change them if that's the concensus.

Yes, doing a PQ by state will miss these if they are not in NSW. Doing a PQ by proximity to a cache or by coords WILL pull these up (if no state selected). Thus, agree with you, people in the area would like to know of ALL caches in the vicinity. (Most would naturally select NSW & perhaps coords, unaware of the little enclave)

Ummm yes. I think we should let sleeping territories lie.iamapom wrote:I may be being overly pedantic
Thanks for the heads up about this however, something I didn't know about.
Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
It may be a moot point anyway, as there is a strong push to give it back to NSW.

There are only 4 of them (2 Reps and 2 Senators)! The rest are blow-ins!Big Matt and Shell wrote:But who would want all of those politicians?
(Assuming that if the ACT was incorporated into NSW, the NSW Government would take over and the ACT Assembly would be disbanded)
Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW
err should this be posted in NSW or ACT forum?
