What is a mega event?

Post by farcall100 » 09 July 12 9:14 pm

As a newbie to this geocaching I'd like to know what constitutes a mega event? How many caches are required? What sort of terrain?
Thanks in advance.

Hi farcall100 and welcome to the addiction. A mega event is one where 500 cachers (individuals) will attend. It is a type of event cache (a get together) and not a physical cache, or collection of them.

A geocaching event is where people who enjoy the activity come together at a picnic, at a restaurant, coffee lounge, camp for a weekend, etc, to socialise, swap travel bugs and generally discuss all things geocaching. This could be 5 people, 20 people, whoever turns up. For an event to achieve Mega status, a minimum of 500 people must attend and they are usually held over a number of days such as a long weekend. The last Oz Mega Event was held in Albury/Wodonga over the Easter weekend in April this year.

Welcome to the fun!
