Hmmm that's not good news about frequencies? We have a prepaid HTC Wildfire S which is locked but only $27 to unlock it. But also have a HTC Desire S which is unlocked both are with Telstra here.

Had thought would swap the australian sim from the desire into the wildfire and disconnect internet access thus be available by phone call only on australian number on the wildfire and buy a Telecom NZ sim for local calls and internet access?

It all sounded so easy in theory before.

Now how do we find out if we can get any of this to work? [-o<

Just go to the phone provider and ask them to unlock it. I have heard some will charge for it, but no charge when I had it done through Telstra. I had it done about 2 weeks into a 2 year plan without problem. Since then I have used SIMs in the same phone from US, NZ and South Africa, data worked, calls worked.
