Munzees!

Ive recently been doing a lot of cachers by a guy called Rodz who is a great (evil) hider as you can see if you check out a few of my logs on his caches.

He has put me onto a new thing in caching... Munzees! Basically its just something else to look for in or near the cache, or simply on their own. You get points, there are levels etc A pointless waste of time? Perhaps! But then Im all for the that ;)

It revolves around people hiding and finding Munzees using your smart phone to scan QR Codes. you know, these things... Image

That one is for the website ;) None in Australia yet, but I thought Id share for all the geeks out there with too much time on their hands like me ;)

When I signed up a few weeks ago I could still not create my own. Has that changed ?

There's a QR puzzle cache in Wollongong, does that count :)

I like the idea. Really. Very cool. Now if you could get tangible items as rewards it would be a winner.

Nope :(

I have noticed the site / info has changed little since I last singed up. I also download the iPhone app but the closes one is still over 7000 miles away. I can see it being something I would enjoy doing, more so the geekyness of it all. Also not having to deal with wet logbooks and the various types of fungus you find growing with it......

I found the exact same problem, so far there is not a single one in OZ, and not too many around the worlds either. If it grew to be as big as Geocaching, that would be fantastic. I love the idea, but until it grows, I wont be able to participate just yet :( :( :(

You Can Hide and be the first in Australia! :D (It just takes a minute to generate)

Create a Profile, click on it... hit "Create Munzee" and enter a name and description (you can change these later)

You have created your Munzee. Then click on the "Undeployed Munzee" tab where you can change/edit and print your Game Piece. If you dont see the bottom box "Munzee Admin Details" below "Capture History" Wait a few minutes, come back and refresh :D

I am going to list a munzee as a GCA cache. What would be the best catergory? Traditional or unknown? Is it even appropriate?

Seems that using my iPhone I will go out and dpeloy my munzee in the wild. Just gotta work out how best to attach or contain it in.

Actually I will wait for the community to decide how we handle munzee's. Would it ever be a cache type on its own? Until it is clearer, I will locate it in my GCA cache "MM Beach".

Happy munzeeing!

haha, I was not the first :(

But the link to mine is http://www.munzee.com/m/fluffyfish/1/

Some feedback :
- need a GPS smartphone (for the app and GPS)
- need a data signal (you deploy your munzee in the field)

Otherwise it is pretty easy.

It's not exactly what I would call a geocache, but hey, no rules, right.
If you wanted to list it as a GCA cache, you would probably be best off listing it as a mystery / puzzle cache so that people would read about the special equipment needed.
You then need to monitor the "proof" of finding, I suppose by checking the finds against the munzee finds.
Do you get a "confirmation" code when you "find" the munzee?

In terms of geocaching and munzees, it uses GPS coords and it provides proof you were at a spot so therefore it is like the equivalent of a locationless or virtual.

Regarding proof, I guess we will have to wait until someone finds a munzee!
