handmade items for swap
handmade items for swap
Just wondering if anyone here swaps handmade items into caches and if so what type of things you make?

Do Pathtags count?
Re: handmade items for swap
I haven't made any swaps, but have swapped small pre-loved treasures in the past. I've often thought I should get off my butt and make some tiny, stuffed felt animals.
You don't need to swap; it's mainly folk with young kids who do.

We (well one of us) used to make acrylic fridge magnets, just used to leave them and not take any of the MacDonalds toys.
Re: handmade items for swap
I have not hand-made swaps, but I have been hand-making the cache containers. Only put 1 out so far, but it is a box made of western red cedar that used to be a fitting in the house that became redundant, so I put it to a better use. The others are waiting for the right location...
I haven't thought of anything to make (out of wood) that wouldn't take too long.

Zalgariath - now that I've looked up what pathtags are - yeah, they count - actually its the kinda thing I had in mind just didn't know they had a name. Have you made some? Got pics?
I've been thinking I might make some coins out of brass/copper/pewter - but they'd probably be more pathtags than swap items now that I understand how it all works.
Squalid and FourW - got any pics to share?

Op Ivy, what you're talking about making is "signature items". Sounds great! I love those! I like to see how inventive people are, and how much fun they have, making signature items.
I like pathtags too, of course, but they are quite expensive to get made. Some people start with the signature items, and progress to pathtags once they've saved up a bit.
You do whatever is your thing! Have fun with it!

Re: handmade items for swap
I've done handmade swaps since I started - first set was magnets made with my photographs, some are bracelets and other jewelery, or a while it was a simple bag of random 'shiny things'. Handmade signature items are one of my fave things to find in a cache.

We have some personal signature items out there:
There is the Bead Dawg series...
The Scrimshaw series...
and the Pewter Gnome series.
Usually we turn them into swaggies before setting the free.

Thanks for sharing Sam - I'd get a kick out of finding any of them in a cache. I particularly like the middle one. How is the linework done? (Ink, etching?)

The bone is cleaned sanded then polished.
The lines are scratched in and then tinted up with brown coloured pencil.
