Topo Maps of New Zealand - how affordable?

Post by Team Wibble » 11 October 05 8:41 pm

We're heading to NZ late November/December for a 3 week holiday and hope to squeeze some caching in amongst other things.

Does anyone have any experience with using NZ topo maps (OziExplorer compatible) and know what sort of price we'd be looking at for purchasing them or where to get them? Being able to plot out caches on the topo maps would make it a bit easier for us to figure out which caches might be good possibilities but if the costs are prohibitive then we'll have to find some other way to plan.

The good news is that the Gummint makes their topo data freely available (are you listening, Canberra?), so there's several vendors of solutions that use this data.

One I used and liked was a program called TUMONZ (The Ultimate Map Of New Zealand), which cost NZD99.

A visit to gps.org.nz might be useful.
