If it is appropriate to ask this question please let me know.
I need to see downloaded topo maps of the "Savannah Way" in the Borroloola-Roper River area and the York Peninsula on "Arcview".
I cannot see any printed matter on any of the downloaded files - just various "layers"
What am I missing?

Where did you download the data from? Geoscience Australia (ga.gov.au)?
My memory is that some of the data files that come with the download tell you what each layer is for. (e.g. roads, vegetation, waterways etc) I know you can download their vector data in various formats, but as I don't have any software that can rasterise the data easily I haven't bothered all that much with it.
I tried importing some of the data into Ozi Explorer, but Ozi reads only the vector or point data, not the layer names or labels. You can build up a map, but it takes a bit of work. I have never used ArcView.
