HELP : Beeline problems?

Post by nomad_penguin » 26 June 07 1:17 pm

Hi all,

I have downloaded BeelineGPS onto the PDA (Pocket PC 2002) and started to work it out. However, when I approach a cache (or any marked waypoint), it seems to jump around and won't settle down. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone have a recommended port splitter for PPC 2002 that I can install as a CAB file? I am using a mac, so can only deal (I think) with CAB files.

We are off overseas on Friday and I'd love to sort it out by then. Any help will be appreciated. We will definitely still be taking the real GPSr though as I understand how to operate that one!

Thanks
- nomad

The arrow jumping does get worse when you stop moving! A mate had a program to give the gps a tune up, so I will try and get hold of him .Send me a pm with your email ad in it

Is that the compass mode of Beeline you are talking about as I have found that using the map mode when approaching a cache is stable and seeing the track trail helps keep me in line.

So BeelineGPS works well enough to be really useful in an old Pocket PC PDA???

Beeline is all that I use for caching.

Any GPS Unit that has a non-magnetic compass, will flick all over the place if you aren't moving much. It needs to know which way you are moving in order to calculate a direction.

Export the required caches from OZi as a GPX file. (Save - Export to GPX)
(Use GSAK for better GPX file management)

Copy this file to your PDA via the ActiveSync cable.

Import the GPX file into Beeline.

Well, I need help. I have downloaded the free 30 day version of BeeLineGPS for now and loaded it on the PDA but it gets to the stage of wanting to go back to the computer to find the GPS. What does this mean and do I have to have something else on the computer for it to read? Help needed.Any ideas??

Hitt'em with the ole Peabeau.

That should fix em.

As you can see I'm not much use in this section.

I did have a solution once a while ago but forgot it.

Have a cup of tea and a lie down, Bronze. You'll come good shortly.

Exactly what is the message you are getting, and what are you doing prior to getting the message?

You must have set up the GPS with the PDA. Is the GPS connected to the PDA when you see the error?

Beeline on my Windows Mobile 4 PDA will crash on startup if the GPS is not contactable. Try doing the same thing with the GPS turned on. I don't think it would need a clear satellite signal, so you could do it inside.

I think the jumping around will be more related to the GPS than the software. I assume that yo have zoomed into 3.7m resolution when you see this happen.

Do you know what chipset the GPS has? Popular ones are Nemrix and Sirf. But there are a number of others coming onto the market just now.

Got it now. Thanks roundcircle; got to connect the GPS. It is raining(yes in Brisbane it does sometimes) outside so I didn't think I would get a reading. Thanks

 Um, no. I was looking on the panel screen (with the big arrow hopefully pointing to the cache). It's not only the arrow that bounces but the distance changes radically as well.

Sirfstar III.
