Is Shonky maps what I need for the Venture? I'm not big on mapping.

Is there a trick to loading them up. These maps seem big. How do I find out if they will or won't fit in the venture.

well I don't really want them but when i had a look at it tonight it said 'no maps' which gave me the impression that it could take them.

I just need to know the distance and direction when i cache. Use a UBD instead. needs no batteries.

Shonky maps on a vista CX

Post by MODU » 15 May 07 9:02 pm

I have a vista CX, and after buying a micro SD card I tried to load the maps from mapsource to the GPS only to have it tell me "Your GPS does not support map transfer." Hmmmm what am I doing wrong?
MODU.

PS Thanks to Shonky for making these available, I owe him a beer next lunch.

haha well...these turned out to be too popular for my host....they allow 120gig a day download limit....last night it hit ~620gig in a single evening.

My hosting should be back online this evening....however I will hold off on hosting the file publicly for a little while.

The file still is on server...and can still be downloaded...just PM me for a link :D

hang off for now. I'm preparing V3.30 hopefully will be ready for release in a week or two. Changes are minor unless you live in Tassie - where I've added waterfall and significant tree data.

Aloysius - did you work out why the downloads jumped up so suddenly? What were the referring urls?

I only upload Shonky Full Topo and Shonky Transparent Contours along with my City Nav 6onto my GPS.

If your running the City Nav you can see the Contours in the back ground.

If you're using the Transparent Contours set, you won't need to load the Full Topo. Use the "topo without contours" set instead. This saves memory as the contours not loaded twice (and allows you to load more maps!).

If you're not using any mapsets besides shonkymaps then just load the "full topo" set.

With either of these options you have the option to also load the "large scale" set to give a better map than the base map at higher zoom levels (out to about 30-50km).

Shonky if you are working on some mod's could you possibly update the install to move it to "Program Files/Shonky Maps" ..
no real biggie if you can't just makes the root folder a bit tidier etc..
And thanks for the maps they are great. :P

That would be a very welcome minor modification.

But these maps are unreal! thanks shonky. I purchased CN7 which is great for Road Nav, but when you want to find out a bit more about parks, reserves, etc.. it wasn't of much use.

Now I have all I want!

PS: let us know if a torrent gets up, I'll help seed.
