Geo2OZI convertor with great features

Post by embi » 19 September 03 12:06 am

Just wanted to let all you oziexplorer users know about a new program called geo2ozi.

It was written by Clyde in WA and it works a charm in converting gpx files into .wpt files.
It color codes your founds, not founds and hiddens.
You can also right click on the waypoint and open file attachment and it opens the cache page.
You can specify if you want your waypoint names to be the GC number or the cache name and the number of characters in the name.

Its a great little program. Check it out

Not bad, needs a little work on the waypoint names as it just uses the first x chars of the description as the name. This will cause some caches to have the same name and be overwritten in a GPSr.
Only ozi waypoint symbols 1 to 30 are selectable. The geocache symbols are 117 and 118

I like the live cache page selection feature.

the cache name problem is being looked at.

Waypoint symbols not sure what will happen...

and also off line cache descriptions will be looked at too.

Please only constructive critisism. This program is very new and updates are almost daily as we suggest new features.

The latest from Clyde.

Changes this update:

1. Added "GPS Friendly" waypoint naming option
2. Added "Smart Name" for unique GPS name generation
3. Increased GPS symbol numbers to 150 (you can also key the number directly if you don't want to use the drop down box)
4. Option to Convert All, Found, Not Found, or Placed caches only.
5. Found, Not Found, Placed, summary at end of conversion
6. Dropped GeoCode Name Generation (can now do via GPS Friendly option)

A great program. I can see it becoming 'indispensable'. Thanks to Clyde. :D

Testing the water

Post by ClydeE » 20 September 03 7:46 pm

Hi guys,

My apologies for taking so long to jump into the forums. To tell you the truth, I have only just found out about them.

I am very new to Geocaching (but already loving it) so please forgive me for any faux pas or etiquette blunders.

I only just purchased OzeExplorer last weekend and boy did my eyes light up when I could see all those caches on a fully zoomable map. I love OziExplorer, but it didn’t take long to realize that its support for Geocaching could do with some help – Geo2Ozi was born!

Thank you all for the feedback I have been getting. Even though the program is very young, your help has made it a useful tool already – keep the comments coming.

One of the next areas I could look at is OFFLINE viewing of caches. As this task in not trivial, I just wanted to get an idea from users if they would find this feature useful or I am better off spending my time on other features.

Update available here http://members.iinet.net.au/~cwe/geo2ozi.htm

Cheers
Clyde

I think this feature would be great. I can help you with a contact to a guy who has done a similar thing with offline cache pages

Geo2Ozi Version 1.06

Post by ClydeE » 21 September 03 1:44 am

Hi Everyone,

Nothing earth shattering in this update but thought you should have it sooner rather than later:

1. New Color combo boxes which allow a greater selection of colors.
2. Compatibility with GPX files generated from http://www.roblisa.com/geocache/

Notes:

Item 1 - Unfortunately when you install this update the colors will revert back to the defaults of Yellow, Aqua, Lime. Just change to your required colors and your settings will be saved for future use.

Item 2 - The GPX files generated from http://www.roblisa.com/geocache/ do not have all the same information as those generated from Geocaching.com (requires premium membership). This caused a problem with placed caches when doing the conversion. I have managed to work around this and these files should now work correctly. Please note that because these files are missing the full cache details and last 5 logs, you will not be able to view the Offline cache information if and when this feature is introduced.

Cheers
Clyde

Just wondering what versions of Windoze this has been tested with ?

I havent been able to get it working on Win2kpro at all.
Will try XP a bit later today and see how that goes.

That's strange, because I have tested (the program and install) on both Windows XP pro, Windows 2000 Pro, and Windows 98.

The hit counter at the geo2ozi web page also indicates there are other Windows 2000 users that have downloaded the program and I haven't heard of any problems.

Any specific error messages?

Regards
Clyde

Nope, downloaded and installed Ok, Seems to do everything fine, even had maccamob on messenger whilst going thru.
He agreed to everything I was doing, and even emailed a file direct incase my feed from Geo.com was dodgy, still no go.
Upgraded to 1.04 and still no bacon..
Just comes up with no waypoints after the translation to OZI.
Just loaded 1.06 to the XP laptop, will try on this one when i get an email thru with GPX files.
