Importing WalkGPS text files

Post by Aushiker » 15 December 04 3:29 pm

Hi

Dave at WalkGPS provides a waypoint list download in text file format (e.g., sample download. Does anyone have any suggestions for converting these text files into a format that I can upload into my Geko? Was hoping for a easy solution (i.e., not OziExplorer) or is that wishful thinking.

Andrew

Good question Andrew. It is a Garmin. Mmmm ... I will check the manual and get back to you.

Okay, if in doubt read the bloody manual. According to the manual it has an interface setting RTCM/TEXT which "allows DGPS input using a standard RTCM SC-104 format and simple ASCII text output of location and velocity information."

The other interfaces are Garmin, Garmin DGPS, NMEA, Text Out and none.

That make sense at all?

What program do you use to send waypoints via a cable to your geko?

GSAK cause have only been doing it for geocaching. Was planning on getting OziExplorer in 2005.

Maybe could use EasyPS I guess.

I used GPS Track Maker for a while, but then I got Ozi Explorer.

Also, G7toWin can probably do a pretty good job with text files, and it can upload/download to Garmin GPSrs.

Seems that the other two suggestions in this thread will not either :( Thanks for trying anyway. Will just have to get OziExplorer.

Have you looked at GPSBabel ?

I think as well as translating, it uploads too - but that's not confirmed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have just downloaded it and tried one test. That is going from text to a gpx xml file which I uploaded into GSAK. GSAK recognised that there where 24 waypoints but did not actually bring over the coordinates. That might be because the coordinates are UTM. Not a big issue. Downloading EasyGPS to try that.

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks promising.

Hi

No immediate luck with EasyGPS either, but I think I might have a solution. That is converting the text file from WalkGPS into a CSV file which GPSBabel says it can handle.

Will test this later when I have a moment.

Thanks
Andrew
