I know you have used recharged batteries but have you tried another set of new batteries?

The good news is I have fixed my GPS thanks to explicit instructions from Johnny Appleseed
http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Miscellaneous

Recovery No.1 worked for me and I was able to get it connected to the pc where I could then remove the gpx files. That was the cause of the problem. SD card and maps were not the issue. Reset the gps then reloaded new GPX files and voila a working GPS. Should have contacted JAS much sooner, tried Garmin a week prior and still no response. If only.......... I would have been able to find many more caches OS instead of using my cachemate on the phone which continuously drained the battery so quickly.

So thanks for the quick response from Johnny Appleseed, and great customer service.
