Oregon 300 POI File still in memory??

Post by ian-and-penny » 18 March 12 8:37 pm

I have deleted all the POI files on my Oregon, yet some POI from a load I did quite some time ago still appear in the Where To > Extras sub menu.

How can I get rid of the pesky things?

Could they be associated with the map data and stored elsewhere?

I saw this on my 78 as well. It seems that POI load to a part of the unit memory that cannot be accessed from the USB connection. The special Garmin place. The only way I found to get rid of them was to keep loading POIs until you filled that part of the memory.

Let me know if you find a better way to remove them as they are pesky. Like the time I had three versions of placed caches in the extras database.

Did you suffer a "hang" firing up your unit? I have had this happen to me after a hang.

I just ran the poi loader and removed the points and it fixed it. If you have already deleted them via windows I'm not sure what to offer you.

Yep I've had a few very old POI's get stuck in there that I haven't managed to get rid of. I'd love to get rid of them as every now and again we go somewhere and get stuck on trying to figure out what the WP is associated with, but then realise it's one of these pesky ones.

The POI Loader only removes ones added by itself.

I tried it, and it didn't remove the pesky ones.
