Garmin tracks interoperability

Post by ftstn » 09 January 12 9:30 pm

I was talking to an associate the other night in relation to GPS tracks used by a govt agency for handheld units i understand they use garmin 60 series, and they use mapinfo on their PC's, He told me that if i was to send a track from either my etrex legend or oregon 450 that the software was incompatable and was not worth being sent in, To the more knowledgable folks does this sound right, i gathered they do not want to be getting tracks from every man and his dogs different gps, but i thought garmin tracks would be pretty compatable ? anyone confirm this

The best thing to do is send the tracklog as GPX, it's supported by almost everything.

Older Garmins used their own format which can vary between units unless you went via something like Mapsource or whatnot.

GPX fixed this problem
