Oregon 4.5 update problems

Post by dingbat12 » 28 May 11 12:48 pm

Oh dear, updated and uploaded a pocket query early this morning--all good, new caches in the Oregon, checked Garmin web updater and new software available, version 4.5. Ran the download and a check of the Oregon indicates that 4.5 is there. However all geocaches have gone missing and nothing is found behind the geocache icon-'no geocahces found'. Did a reset, still nothing, reinstalled the software, still no caches showing despite the appearance of gpx files in the Garmin/GArmin/GPX file.

Is anybody able tp advise/hel.

cheers Dingbat12

Ah--am breathing better now, did a proper master reset -hold down TLH corner when starting, yes erase all user data- and presto all caches back again, now to reset my settings.

Sorry Agent Basil, I may have not told the full story--its a 550 and the software update was from version 4.2 to version 4.5 and in the past all software updates on this and my Nuvi 1490t have gone smoothly--maybe I was not holding my mouth properly or something on this occasion, it all looks good now..

Hi Dingbat12, just updated my 450t and all is well. I have had the problem with caches disappearing (usually after the GPS gets stuck after loading more gpx files). I think its due to loading too many caches at once - I never used to have the problem when I had fewer caches loaded. Anyway, I have to delete all my gpx files, restart the GPS, then put the gpx files back, and restart again. Usually comes good. It will be interesting to see if it still happens after this update!

One welcome feature I've found already is that it now displays logs (other than my own) for caches that I've found. It still doesnt mark disabled caches which is my biggest gripe :(

Cheers

Just updated our 550 to V4.5 with no problems. I did delete the geocaches.gpx file first though as I had read on the oregon wiki that sometimes this 'might' ease any problems.

My 550 will occasionally freeze when hooked into 12v power, in the car, which is really annoying and I find that I have to remove the batteries to affect a restart.

Pacmania and kittykittykitty, I will try gpx file deletion before I next update, though it has not been a problem in the past. Disabled caches not being so indicated are a distraction but I do like the fact that my log appears under 'found caches' as well as others.

550 appears to be OK as I quickly found a cache in Lonsdale St(Canberra) this morning.

thanks , Dingbat12
