GCA GPX files into C: Geo

Post by juc_cacher » 08 March 11 11:47 pm

Hi All,

I have just tried to load a GCA GPX file into C:geo on my HTC phone, but it doesn't seem to like it. I was able to load a GC GPX without problems. A quick look around here shows that people are using GSAK to convert the files, but as a non-Windows user, that avenue is closed to me.

Is there any non-GSAK way I can do this ?

Thanks

Go to your settings page http://geocaching.com.au/my/settings and set your GPX format to 1.0.1 (compatable) and your GCA GPX's should work with most things.

Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, it didn't help as far as C:Geo is concerned, although GeoBeagle quite happily took them all in. That just means I have 3 apps on the phone, which is less convenient. Such is life, I guess

It's looking like a c:geo problem.

c:geo doesn't seem to like some of our cache types or sizes, perhaps contact them and see if they will fix it.

GeoHunter, GeoBeagle, GeOrg and many others cope with the 1.0.1 format, only one I'm aware of other than c:geo that doesn't like the 1.0.1 format is CacheMate and it looks like a fix for that won't be coming any time soon based on my discussion with the dev.

I might contact them, because it would be nice not to have to use a 3rd app. For now though, I'm kinda on the air, so thanks for that.

I am having the same issue with my Andriod phone and c:geo.
Tried all sorts of combinations of downloading PQ and cache GPX files and then applying them to the GSAK for export again to import into the c:geo, but no matter what settings I try in GSAK I can't seem to get the caches loaded into c:geo.
Has anyone been able to get this working? (ie: GCA files into GSAK and then into c:geo or GCA straight into c:geo)
The same downloaded GCA GPX files can be imported into other Andriod apps such as Geohunter and Geobeagle with no problem.
However, I am a real fan of c:geo and much prefer using it rather than other Andriod apps such as Geohunter and Geobeagle.

Would love to know what settings / processes you are using.

c:geo is GC only

I've used virtually every Android geocaching app for my other project and I can say that nearly ALL work with the 1.0.1 format, c:geo is just not geared up for external sites. I have had it work in the past, but not lately.

Someone needs to contact them and get support, but given they don't support OX or any other sites I wouldn't hold my breath.

Ones that work ok:
GeoHunter
GeoBeagle
GeOrg (my current fave)
Cachemate (GCA GPX V1.0 version only though)
Columbus
Cacher
OpenGPX
and a few more (this is my off-the-top-of-my-head list)

Oh, also, if you go via gsak the official GC app works ok(ish) too

(IMO c:geo is deficient is many areas as a cache management tool and it annoys me in the Android Market when people go to other more capable apps and leave 'c:geo is better' posts in the comments... :stabby It's good, but it's not THAT good)
