Anything exists for the right price
There is a small amount data missing around katoomba, however this would due to the number of cliffs......all data missing seems to be on the cliff edges. When changing 500m in altitude over 90m (3 seconds) you can't blame NASA for missing data
There are several (free) programs which can fill in these voids of data including SRTMfill at http://www.3dnature.com/srtmfill.html
Remember Ozi3D interpolates between elevation data, therefore will smooth the terrain, rather than show vertical drops. (BTW Cliffs will never be shown as cliffs )
Hope this helps

Any good at all for general canyons maps Neil?Webguy wrote:OK, thanks, I got the right data, and am now making bumpy maps. Damn, the area around katoomba looks pretty bad, I guess it comes down to the data. Does 1 second data exist?
Really, at the moment, it's a novelty factor. Seeing more detailed data in action would be nice.
If not then I won't bother trying until I can get some better data.
At 90m intervals you'd only get 5 points for a canyon like Claustral
In theory it wouldn't be too hard to write a program that took a topo image and as you clicked on the contour lines it generated the appropriate data. Allthough knowing my luck if I wrote such a thing, the very next day everyone would have access to sub 1 second data!

I played with it last night, no, not that! Ozi3D
I found that it did a better job on less mountainous countryside, and I thought it looked better without the toppo textured onto it as well. I did some around gleen brook, katoomba, lithgow and dubbo as well as sydney harbour. Interesting, it was showing peaks under the water which was pretty cool.
You would not see a canyon really at all, I did around claustral, and all it was, was rolling hills, bigish ones, but still, nothing to suggest that something like claustral was hiding in there.
1 second data would be interesting to play with, but, again, more for the novelty factor.

Hi Pesky!,
Ozi3D seems to load the best resolution data therefore even though you do not necessarily need to turn off the 9 second data, it helps with sanity checking
My steps generally include:
Go to "3D/Elevation" menu
Select "Elevation Configuration"
Select "DEM File Paths" tab
Unselect all "Active" checkboxes except for Globe (Arcview)
Hit "save"
Now....
Load a small scale map (>1:250000, I use a 1:1million SF55)
Make sure "show elevation display" is on (under 3D/Elevation)
Zoom to show the whole map
When mousing over you should see when an area has data and when it doesn't (???? shown on elevation display)
Regards

There is a program that makes a DEM file from your tracklog.EcoTeam wrote:Any good at all for general canyons maps Neil?Webguy wrote:OK, thanks, I got the right data, and am now making bumpy maps.
