SD Card Help Questions

Post by ian-and-penny » 04 June 04 3:00 pm

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the maximum number of files that can be stored on a 256MB SD Card? I seem to be runing out of FAT long before I reach capacity.

Will formatting it a FAT or FAT32 make any difference?

Regards Ian

The amount of file that can be store depends on the file size. I get approx 200 photos from my camera. So as for the amount of files it all depends on the file size. You could try to formatting the card also do a scan disc on it you may have some bad sectors (areas on the card that can not be written to) You will only be able to format as a standard fat system not a fat32

Yes - I think FAT32 will give you more files, but make sure you don't need to use the card in some device that only supports FAT (e.g. a camera).

It's going into a PDA so it shouldn't be a problem. I can always re-format it if required.

Just out of interest - FAT 32 gives less storage space on the SD card because the FAT itself takes up more space.
