On version 6 next to the select text tool is a snapshot tool. Using that you can select an area which it then copies to the clipboard so you could paste it into some paint program.

Thanks for that, do you know if that is the full version or in the basic?

Another option is to get ghostscript. It allows you to save a PDF as a raster image (in various formats). There are various versions for various platforms.

The advantage of ghostscript is that it will allow you to save files where saving has been disabled in Acrobat Reader by the document creator.

I know I'm not in WA, but I thought those maps were a little light-on in the detail department.

But, if you want to rip them out, photoshop 7 and up can load a pdf and then you can save it out as whatever you want. Maybe even piece em all together.

There are a few programs that make it easy. Go to http://www.thebeatlesforever.com/proces ... cpdf2.html and grab the pdf2image converter demo. It appears to be a ghostscript gui front end and will give you a month or so to extract the images.

If you don't already have a copy of Photoshop installed this might be overkill (esp given that ghostscript is free). :)

Note also that Photoshop (being an Adobe product) will not let you save a PDF file that is protected from saving. The ones on the NRMA web site are protected in this manner. Using ghostscript you can save them fine.

PDF & .MAP

Post by Cached » 19 May 04 6:08 pm

If you grabbed a PDF file and then made a .MAP file from it, is it OK then to share the resulting .MAP file?

That is there is a map at x location that you can convert and then this .MAP file will work for it?

As you created the map file, it is yours to do with what you wish. All the map files for the nsw topo maps were made by volunteers and are freely available.

Just to be clear here - are you talking about sharing the images ripped from maps, or just the files used to calibrate such images?

I am talking about the Ozi map file, used to calibrate the image. Not the image itself.
