TomTom OneXL Firmware Upgrade

Post by Richary » 16 April 08 10:21 pm

A few days ago I downloaded the new version of TomTom Home on the PC and it wanted to upgrade the firmware on the OneXL Plus. Fine, it promised faster initial satlock and so on. But since then I can't turn the unit on unless it has power coming in through the mini USB port. If I turn the power off it keeps running fine (so not a dead battery or anything). Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't usually go to the site for upgrades or anything, but thought I would see what was new.

Something similar happened to the Go500 a little while back on a firmware change - it stopped charging on the car mount and wouldn't switch off when removed from the mount. Reported the problems to TomTom through the web site, and after a couple more minor firmware changes they fixed it.

I have 4 units under my control, home and work) and havent had this issue but I do know that Mr Coffee has the issue you speak of.

Got this reply from TomTom support overnight.....

To solve this, please to do the following:

Take out the SD card.

Reset the device with a paper clip.

Turn the device back on.

Insert the SD card.

After this procedure has been followed, the device should always turn on, also when the SD card is left inserted.

Will try that tomorrow. Seems strange to be turning it on without the SD card in it, but anyway.

I downloaded that update for my XL about 3 months ago and since I have had the same problem. So we are interested to know if the fix works too.

Worked for me too. Didn't realise the paperclip up the backside would also turn it off.

Worked for a while but has gone back to the old behaviour. Might have to give it another kick up the backside
