GPX for recommended caches ...

Post by aussiecoder » 13 May 05 11:36 am

I'd like to request that the "Recommended Cache" page have a GPX file, so I can easily download the details of the "must do" caches.

thanks

Nice idea batty one...

I vote for it too please, only problem is that the GPX data will only give you the GCA listed recommended caches.... I wonder if anyone can work a way around that......

There are workarounds for data feeds that have been discussed before but I think the concensus from the owners of the site was that it "wouldn't be right".

I think in part because the data would be coming from a different site where they charge you to access the data in such a format.

They may not be happy with GCA providing that data free.

I'm not as up on all this as I should be,

but

If you only provide the cache names and codes, and not all the data that goes with them, would that be still as big an issue? I am only talking about a recommended caches list, and not whollus bollus downloading of caches.

Or, in a similar vein, is it possible to produce the list of recommended caches in a format, with a macro, that will set the user flag in gsak, indicating a recommended cache?

I had forgotton about the "data ownership" problem, given that, I'd be happy if I could get waypoint name, cache name and co-ordinates.

The "plan" for me is to load them into my mapping software as waypoints so I can see if there is "something special" on my way to meetings that maybe "not so special" :D
