The whole interconnectiness of various pages

Post by MavEtJu » 06 May 17 5:10 pm

At this moment the menu structure of the website is a tree design: At the top right you have main menu, under that you have further links to pages and further pages, but these pages cannot be accessed from anywhere else in the menu except this one specific main menu item.

For example, today I was trying to find out again where to access the personal dragonZone pages. From the main menu I could access the full information of all clans, but I couldn't find my dragonZone page. Later on I find out that it was accessible via a link at the My Cacher Page.

There are other pages which are similar like but not linked:

http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzone/ - My dragonZone.
http://geocaching.com.au/dragonzone/ - dragonZone.
http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzonetrophies/ - dragonZone trophies.

Three different locations, all to do with dragonZone. But you cannot go from one location to another without going through a higher level menu.

Could we get on the My dragonZone page get a tab-reference to the main dragonZone page and to the dragonZone Trophies page, on the main dragonZone page a tab-reference to the My dragonZone page, and on the dragonZone Trophies page a link back to the My dragonZone and to the main dragonZone page?

That way all the dragonZone related pages can be found and accessed from every dragonZone page.

Thanks, Edwin

dragonzone is the game.
My/dragonzone is you.

They are functionally separate things in the organisation of the site.
The more links added to the menu the more cluttered it becomes, and less useful. Attempts to get everything into the one menu in the past have resulted in feedback that it's too confusing, hence it was split into the various sub sections via My Cacher Space.

If there are a set of pages you visit often, simply add the page as a favourite. These pages will then appear under the favourites section of the main menu, and can be re-named and set to appear in any order you like.

Yups, I'm aware of that. But they are related.

As a frequent user of the GCA website, I am familiar with the structure and the menu and I am aware there are multiple pages with related information. Today I had troubles finding the one I was looking for.

Imagine a new person coming in and trying to find it out how things work? This is a serious usability issue which shouldn't be resolved with an "add the page as a favourite".

This issue has been discussed before, but we've looked at it again, and hopefully we have a solution that works for everyone.

http://geocaching.com.au/dragonzone/ now has a new tab titled "My". Clicking this tab will open a drop-down menu with links to both http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzone/ and http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzonetrophies/ .

http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzone/ now has a new tab titled "Trophies".

http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzonetrophies/ now contains the same navigation tabs that appear http://geocaching.com.au/my/dragonzone/ .

Hopefully that makes dragonZone easier to navigate without crowding up the exiting menus too much.

And thank you for explaining the issue clearly, and offering a suggestion how it could be made to work better. Too often we just see complaints of "this sucks" but with no suggestion of how it could be made into a nicer user experience. Helpful suggestions are always welcome.
