I've been searching for a promising non-garmin beacon cache. This tech looks promising (though expensive).

It seems to require shortened uri (??) url. Can the devs provide a shortened link to either a code (such as a history cache) which people then enter to show they found the cache? I had read that there is a 17 character limit (excluding the http://www. part).
Otherwise it can be set up as a multi with a bitly link (though the page needs to be hosted somewhere which is fine for me but maybe not others).

Yep. Also redirects to others like GC / OpenCaching and others.
As for providing a verification code in the URL, no, because that link can then be shared etc and would be abused by those who abuse these things.
