Something going on with ACT cachers?

Post by traineediplomat » 07 July 13 2:35 am

Just noted that Diadem, binliner, Jmanjezza, CorvettePete, AmethystPig and The Notoriously Gay Duo all seemed to have disappeared from ACT caching stats? glitch? repair? martian invasion?

The ACT feed needs a re-jig

It may take a few days to filter thru.

The adjustment to the feed didn't really do much except now it includes another 8 or 9 caches.

If the caches these people have been doing have had more than 5 visits in a 3 or 4 days period then they may not be getting picked up due to how things work.

Our feeds are no longer coping with the amount of caching happening on gc in Australia now, and it's only going to get worse as people dump more power trails and stuff on us.

We are not eligible to use GC's live API for at least 4 reasons on their terms of use, so that's not an option (The biggest reason is that our name and url contain the word Geocaching which they have a trademark on).

Pretty soon we are going to have to put disclaimers on the stats!

They were there on the Top50 finders (all sources) graph a few days ago, then disappeared. They are there in-situ on the Cachers by find list, just seemed to disappear off the graph.

Or more likely I clicked something wrong!

Would GCA lose much if the gc.com stats were dropped? Would it extend the life of / reduce the load on the GCA server?

We would extend the server lifetime by years. A big part of the service we offer (or try to offer) is your stats. Without the stats a lot of people wouldn't come here and would then miss all of the fun and entertainment that is Geocaching Australia.

I love coming here (GCA) and a big part of what initially got me here was the stats that can be obtained. That said, if they disappeared I would still visit and use GCA.

Gigglygecko Clan is set to NSW (by choice through their settings).
Peita is set to NSW due to the number of finds in that state.

Would it help if there was a way to allow people to import more than 1 GPX file at a time? I'm guessing it is designed to only import your own finds but if I'm not mistaken it imports all the log files within the GPX. I know I get about 15-20 GPX files a week that keep my GSAK database up to date. I'd be happy to import them in if it wasn't so time consuming to do them one by one.

Zip them up, then load the zip file in the same GPX importer.
