Creating my first GA cache

Post by GoldJ » 14 December 12 3:58 pm

I've been trying to create a cache and thought I'd got everything in place so I published it. Unfortunately, I found that the co-ords I'd entered defaulted back to S42(degrees symbol) 0.000' E147(degrees symbol) 0.000'.
This is the first time I've published on GA (or tried to). GC has never caused me any trouble and I'm pulling my hair out. I have archived my cache - H(a)UNTING CHEESY GA5704 - until someone can guide me through how to get the correct co-ords to publish. :?:

What are the co-ords?
PM me if you don't them public.
I'll update and get back to you.

Thanks - the co-ords are S42 49.273 and 147 19.081. Are you able to un-archive it for me then? Also, I'd appreciate knowing what I'm doing incorrectly.

I have no idea what you may have been entering at your end. Were you entering the degrees symbol? Did you have E on the longitude. It's a bit hard to diagnose post event, sorry.

I pasted this into the box.
S42 49.273 E47 19.081
It has set the cache location accordingly.
Please check.

When you are ready, you can activate the cache listing by placing an "Unarchived" log against it.

Hi again caughtatwork, Thanks for fixing the problem. I couldn't enter the degrees symbol because I couldn't see how to; however, I kept the degrees symbol that was in the pre-set co-ords and just worked around it. I have checked the co-ords & they are now correct and unarchived the cache.

Excellent.

You don't need the degrees symbol. You really only need the co-ords and the cardinal points. The regex that controls the co-ords is probably not 100% perfect. S37 45.000 E144 45.000 is the format you would need. Any additional . or other spaces might throw it out.

Glad to hear it's worked and your cache is good to go.
